Audacity issues
I've never really worked with Audacity to record that much so bear with me for my ignorance.
So whenever I record through Audacity it sounds terribly distorted. I've tried messing with the volume levels on the mixer, on my computer, and within Audacity, and it always sounds the same. Heavily distorted just at various volumes.
I went into the quality section (where the 32-bit/16-bit recording options are), but saw nothing in there that would actually get rid of the distortion that's going on.
Again, sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you could help me out here that'd be much appreciated. Even if you are suggesting another free program that would work better than Audacity for recording.
NIGGERS
Also, another recommended program is optimum since Audacity seems to crash all the time.
And I'm beginning to think it's the soundcard on my computer. Do I really have to have some external soundcard hooked up to get a proper recording?
Ohhhh I had the EXACT same problem. I only had that problem since I had an external soundcard. Since I'm about the biggest n00b here if we're talking about software/technical stuff, it took me sooo much time to get it fixed and in the end I couldn't even fix it myself, I got some help from another friend who helped me online through desktop share on Skype.
It was hard to figure out where the problem lied. I had to change some settings at Preferences in Audacity and I think the main problem was that some settings at my M Audio settings were set wrong. If you have the same external soundcard (Delta 66), I might be able to help you
