Japan Sure Enjoys Dolphin Meat

Japan slaughters dolphins for meat, rivers of blood ensue:

Despite the efforts of the Japanese authorities to keep it hidden, the massacre has been captured on film by a guerrilla documentary team led by the man who trained Flipper.

is it illegal to do so?

the article never said it was, so i'm thinking this is mostly a "look at the cute animals dying" thing

Cows are humanely slaughtered. That certainly wasn't humane.

I just read the article. I wish O'Barry much success in his efforts.

Dude you;re so retarded for asking that questions that I'm not even sure it is worth answering.

But I will, cuz I'm nice.

It's simple, we control the reproduction of cows. This has nothing to do with dolphins being cute. It's the fact that 1) they are a lot more intelligent that cows and b) that we have no means of controlling their population.

In fact many would argue that there are too many cows and sheep in the world today.

read the article, watch that clip and tell me if thats remotely the same as killing a cow that was bred at a farm. The cow will probably be eaten as well, do you believe all that dolphin and whale meat gets sold? not only is it not healthy due to the high content of fat and mercury (since these animals feed on fish, they develop high mercury levels themselves), but there's other sources of fish that won't eventually become extinct that can be used for sushi instead.

Posted by Jackson on Oct-04-2009 20:41:

You cannot justify us killing cows being the same as killing dolphins.
Cows have long being domesticating for food. They are bred in captivity, reared and then killed. Numbers are controlled and tracked.

Dolphins and Whales and even fish are wild. Its free game to go out and harvest the seas of them. Numbers are often not regarded as we do not have a definite idea of how many are in the wild.

At the current rate of decline (if consumption of fish stays the same) we have enough fish to last us until 2045. But for most governments because fish are not captively visible like on a farm they are out of mind.

Hence why I stopped eating fish over 2 years ago.

No, pretty sure mass killing is mass killing. Accept it, or don't.

that video is crazy

Your basing this on....?

Yes cows are killed...but in a controlled way.

have you seen how they kill kosher/hallal cows? same way, they cut the neck let all the blood seep out. This is how the native american's did it as well.

What about it is humane? Many cows don't die from the blast to the head and are still dying when they're gutted and skinned.

I don't know about that, but in America, they are supposed to shoot that thing in their head and they die immediately.

If that's happening, which I doubt on any systematic scale in America, then that should be against the law, and I think it is...

Posted by Comrade Stalin on Oct-04-2009 21:18:

I'll also add, that cows, chickens, pigs, cannot understand death, or that their death is imminent. That's not to say they can't feel pain which is why slaughterhouses are supposed to do it quickly and as painlessly as possible. As for the dolphins, I think that video is pretty clear they were very much aware of their imminent death, and such a gruesome death at that...

Actually, well in the UK anyway. Once the bolt goes into the head, a metal pole is inserted and is used to destroy the brain incase the bolt didn't work. One of my lecturers was an RSPCA inspector and told me that they had to spend 2 weeks in a slaughter house to practice euthanising animials. Not always the most humane but still...

Dolphins are more intelligent than most people. Why don't they eat fat stupid people instead.

Are you sure i am retarded?

A) dolphin's are being killed for meat
B) cows are being killed for meat

If you look at these dolphins alot of them are listed as least concern. (conservation status)

I am playing devil's advocate here but clearly it seems you are nit picking between mammals.

This is analogous to eugenics in a way.

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Oct-04-2009 21:34:

So if they altered the method of capture and killing woudl it be ok?

what about hunting other ungulates like deer and moose?

what is the perception of that?
