chillout
Inner peace by iskandar
been working on this, was getting a bit sick of making hard beats so went a bit emo chillout. Enigma influenced i guess.
Well, let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this and I think it has a ton of potential. The track flows very nicely and the drums/percussion sound very nice and have a ton of presence. However, there are three small issues with it that really kinda break up the flow of the track and that I found a little distracting. First, the strings are just too loud and raw for my taste. I think they would fit in the mix much better if they were thinned out with a hi-pass filter to reduce some of the harsh low mids and brought down in the mix. A little chorus, flanger, or phaser (possibly even a little more reverb) would help smooth them out as well. Second, the release on the strings seems too abrubt for this track and it sounds like the notes in each chord are releasing at different times, which really breaks up the flow. I'd suggest increasing the release time on the strings and make sure that the notes are held out a little more, releasing at the same time, and flowing into the next chord. Third, similar issue for the low (root) notes in the piano. They cut off in an almost staccato sorta way on some chords, which sounds unnatural and jerky, it especially sticks out in a laid-back track like this. I'd suggest lengthening those root notes to hold for the duration of the chord - that will definitely make it flow better.
That probably seems like a lot of negativity, but it isn't - each one is a minor point and easy to address and will drastically improve the flow of this track. I really did like the track a lot and I just think that with a little more attention to those details, this track will go from very good to incredible!
cheers for the feedback.much appreciated
i bought omnisphere so i will use that for the strings as the plugin i used didn't really have the best depth/warmth.im akin to get a hardware synth for strings.
I will take a look at the midi parts and see about fixing the notes.
