Seeking help from Wireless Gurus

so I'm thinking of getting a new phone and have narrowed down the options to the following...

-Samsung Omnia i910
-BB Storm 9530
-HTC Touch Pro 7279
-LG Dare 9700

now i know theres the phone thread but I couldnt find it

I've looked up reviews on all these phones and they all seem to do well (4+/5) but still cant decide

PS. If i had the cash for the HTC Touch Pro2, this thread wouldn't exist..lol

You are supposed to call them "TOTA Geeks and Nerds" LOL!!

exstasie...all of the above..lol

I dont know if these can be used as memory devices as I couldnt find anything mentioned on any about this(my current moto i876 can be used as an external card reader/storage device as well and it's very very handy)

I also need it to be able to charge via usb (another detail I had trouble finding).

I'm somewhat leaning towards the storm but the dare seems really good too...oddly on the telus site, the dare is listed under "mobile phones" and is not considered a smarphone :s (what really classifies a phone to be smart?)

Go with the Storm, wait for the Storm 2 if you can.

Wait for the new WinMo 6.5 phones to come out in a week or so.

Omnia II on Bell and LG IQ on TELUS.

that would be ideal but I guess it would be pricier than even the HTC touch pro 2...(currently at 249 on a 3 yr contract..ouch)

seems like the main con of the original storm was the pressure sensitivity of the touch screen which has now been fixed. (pressure sensitive touch screen seems better for my stubby fingers..lol)

the Omnia2 looks sweet..cant find any info on the IQ...but once again...it's gonna be pretty expensive

alright i've decided to get the Storm...seems to be among the cheapest of the lot that will support HSPA and the complaints of the short battery life are now null since the latest software for it uses less.

of course the storm 2, omnia 2 and HTC TP2 are better but way out of my budget..

thanks for the help guys..

...erm..geeks and nerds

The new Storm doesnt even have the push down screen, its more vibration senser.

I want a Storm sooo bad.

P.S. Never buy an LG

yea i read something about electro static button feel or something on the storm 2...they were going to implement it on the storm but turned out to have too many glitches and was too expensive to produce then...

as for LGs...depends which one you get...but they all feel like kids toys

probably when Hero 2 comes out....

they just released the touch pro 2 recently so they might hold out a bit on the release of the Hero just for product life cycle purposes...then again i'm only making assumptions here

The Hero is actually a seriously slick piece of kit.

yea but telus hasnt confirmed if they're even getting it (which is odd since they have storm 1 and usually providers keep the growing line)

and how much is that expected to be on say even a 3 year contract? prolly 250 at least

I am so tempted to sell my Magic and buy the Hero, but I am having hard time justifying paying so much money for it.

I am going to try the Hero ROM for the Magic. See how that looks

P.S. I LOVE ANDROID!!!

prolly 299 at least :P

but in any case, considering you'll be paying $60/mo x 36months=$2160 the initial hit for the phone is not that much

Posted by LKD on Oct-07-2009 13:32:

lol oh well...anyhow, telus hasn't confirmed getting the storm 2 and associates either know nothing or dont want to say anything about it either so I'm gonna go in for it...+ it's on sale now (on the 3 yr plan)

Ya, i remember years ago (pre 05 or 06?) i was warned by Rogers, Bell and Telus employees in Collingwood to stay away from their LG phone offerings... they told me the LG models (the ones out at that time) had the highiest return or defect/repair rate of all their phones(something like that)

Just generally the sales reps didnt seem to have a lot of confidence in the LGs or wanna recommend them.

No idea about the company's phone reputation these days, if its improved at all or not.

But a friend has that LG touch screen phone and she loves it and hasnt had any problems or complaints at all with it... not even since the screen got scratched/cracked at a kegger. Its still responding w/o problems.
