Windows 7

Anyone here running 32bit? I need someone to test compatibility out.

Download and install EAC (Exact Audio Copy). Once installed run and go to EAC Options. Change the language to Russian. Tell me if it is all in typical Russian Cyrillic or if it pretty much looks like fucked up Latin based characters.

Reason I need this, is because I am running Win7 64bit (final build for those nerds) and it appears to fail miserably in this aspect.

dude i swear to god i was going to make a thread about windows 7 a sec ago, then decided to post in the tech forum, then decided not post at all (have you seen the tech forum lately?)

is it worth getting, or should i stick with vista? i'm worried about dicking around with reinstalling drivers and program compatibility. i.e. i want all my DAWs and VSTs to work

Im really conservative when it comes to OS upgrades, but I have two mates that are more highly skilled in the PC arena and they both swear 7 is full of awesome. I guess it really depends on how many older devices/programs youre gonna be using. I tend to find a program that works, and then use it for the next decade. I still have winamp 3 or something!

Unless there is a desperate need to upgrade then id wait for all the kinks/drivers to be ironed out.

I have gotten multiple people to switch from XP to Win7 and they both are actually very happy. Stu (Sushipunk) and Chris (mezzir). Chris uses a bunch of production stuffs and has had no issues aside from his sound interface with drivers. I forget how he got it fixed though. Otherwise, he uses it full time and that is the RC.

I have been on the final RTM build for about 2 months. This is the FIRST issue I have had with it. Which seems to quite possibly be a wow32 emulation issue.

pkc: LOL fucker

Win7 is MUCH better with drivers than vista, but you also shouldn't run anything more than 2-3 years old with Win7.

thanks for the info, in that case i'll probably just wait.

i'm especially worried about having to re-point my DAW in the right direction for all of my sample and project directories, that's always a pain.

that's precisely what i'm worried about, i don't want the hassle.
and XP to win7 is a no-brainer, XP is pretty outdated imo

Yeah it took him and I 2-3 days of fucking around to get on the right track, but he finally found some forum that had a way to get it working properly.

D3d runs a lot better since Win7 uses less resources than Vista. Or so I have heard. I haven't run any games yet. lol

Im interested to try it. It's got pretty good reviews in the paper here.

I've been running this since the beta version; Drivers for this bitch are lame as fuck; they are dependent upon windows xp or some shit; I doubt windows 7 is even going to be worth the money;

Just download ubuntu or a linux flavor distro; like Debian . . .forget anything in this world that costs a monetary value to purchase.

The only reason I got windows 7 is because it is was a download that one did not have to pay for.

Past that screw windows if you have to pay any penny for utilizing something that should be free at this point in our highly advanced society.

Drivers for Win7 have nothing to do with XP except for the fact that they are both technically NT based. Aside from that, the sound and video drivers are TOTALLY different than XP. You can't use XP sound or video drivers with Win7. Same went for Vista.

As for finding drivers, most if not all things made in the last 2-3 years will work perfectly.

Anyways, please get back to topic. Do you have 32 or 64bit? If 32bit, can you please do as I asked? If not cool.

Posted by Sushipunk on Oct-08-2009 05:10:

Mine is 64bit, so I'm afraid I'm useless to you.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-08-2009 05:11:

Yeah I know. You and Chris both. My coworker ironically just finished installing 32bit, so he is going to test for me as soon as he gets that shit online. Which should be very soon.

Yeah fuck windows. I have used Linux extensively, and quite frankly, it has some serious issues. Quite specifically, Ubuntu doesn't deal with SATA well or properly. Flash is a piece of shit on it. There are still rendering issues with some displays. Not ready for the mainstream yet.

So download the app I linked in my post, change the language to Russian and tell me if it looks fucked.

If the letters don't look anything like this: йцукенгшщзхъывапролджэячсмитьбю.

exactly.

there are like a bajillion possible problems in the world of computing, and i want the problems that everyone else has too, which we're more likely to see fixes/workarounds for.

if you want the least hassles, go mainstream. the same goes for hardware too.

Hey, I can actually read that:

Mikemu?SKomiomisumiumuikakimu?Kishiimi-misomumisemisamiemikamusaijo??shimikumibikoamu.

I kind of wish it meant something, but I'm afraid sigma is not exactly a common letter in Japanese

Exactly.

Lira: Can you please force your browser to use UTF-8?

Yes. It now reads "(Short-)i???kengshschz???yvap?oldzheya????it'b?.", but in Cyrillic. I tried all other encodings KOI-8, ISO-8859, Windows-1251, but nothing works... what is it supposed to say?

I'm running Google Chrome on Vista (32bit, I guess), by the way.

I run chrome too, but I force UTF-8 encoding. It just reads the keyboard layout from left to right hitting all keys.
