xone:42
I've decided to up my mixer budget a little bit and I think I'm going to get the Allen & Heath xone:42. Any thoughts?
I was originally going to get the 32, but it looks like the 42 mitigates all of the little issues of the 32 (gain, eq kill, etc).
You can get it online for about $700 - which I think is a steal.
Well what are you looking for from your next purchase?
Have you got any other options lined up, have you played with the actual mixer in a shop to get a feel for it etc.
Will you need additional channels down the road?
All questions you have to ask yourself. I usually line up 3 mixers that suit my needs and try to play them off each other to see which one i'd prefer because of price, functionality, features (effects, eqs (wide band or narrow etc), upgradability (i made that word up), exchangeable parts?
Were you looking at any other mixers or are you found on the Xone in general.
I was close to getting thte 42, until i upped my budget to a 92.
I have to admit when i first got the 92 i was shocked at how loose the faders were. Disappointed nearly. But i've grown to like them now. The filters are savage as well and from what i can remember the 42 has them as well
I like the unit personally. I know a few others had a couple of gripes about it but they were only minor..
I play vinyl, but also have a small sound rig that I rent out. I thought three channels would be plenty, but I have a lot of friends that play Serrato and still some that play CDs. Three channels would just be awkward to have turntables, Serrato, and CDJs all hooked up at the same time.
I currently have a Numark Matrix3 (its about 5 years old or more) and I have been pretty happy with it. I have gotten used to killing the EQ completely (it actually has switches) and I really like having two headphone jacks.
I don't really rent my rig out enough to justify spending too much money, but the price is definitely right.
I have always wanted an Allen & Heath so that plays a big part. I have also never been a fan of the Pioneers. I don't like most effects, but the A&H filter is badass. I am pretty much sold, I just wanted to make sure I did my due diligence before dropping serious cash on something.
I have a 42 and I fucking love it. I have 2 techs, 2 cdjs and an EFX500 hooked up to it (plus sometimes FS) and it works brilliantly at the centre of all that. The sound is superb and the X:FX send and return works very well, theres only 1 filter but i have never found that to be a problem. The inbuilt soundcard is wicked, just plug it in and go, no installation required, it just fucking works.
The only gripe you may have with it is that the phono channels are 1 and 4 so just using turntable means you will always be on the outside, but thats not a major issue.
Ive had mine for almost 2 years now and even though the first one blew up (not a common fault, I have never heard of another one going, just got unlucky) I have no complaints about it at all. I couldnt recommend it enough
What kind of interface is it? Can you use it with traktor scratch?
I'd go for a 42 if it weren't for the fact that it's 3-band and not 4-band.
Ergo, I plan on getting a 62.
Don't underestimate Eclers...
I just got my ship notice! Can we fast forward to Friday now?
BTW, if you don't have a local shop to support (which I always recommend first) check out djdeals.com - they have great prices. I'm getting the XONE:42 for $679 before shipping. I think that is a steal.
hopefully things work out well...ive heard nothing but horror stories about djdeals. not to mention they aren't authorized dealers for a few companies...can't remember which ones off the top of my head except for pioneer.
All of their online reviews were very positive - I really hope that proves to be the case.
I know I have gotten my notice from UPS saying it has shipped. I'll post when it comes in to let everyone know if what is coming is what it is suppose to be.
If I were ordering something like that online I'd probably go through agiprodj.

Check ou the Nuo 3.0, Nuo 4.0, or if you want a little more in terms of midi, etc., the Evo4.
There was also a barely used Evo5 on Ebay i saw yesterday for like 1200 bucks.
I've got an Evo 5 and do not regret it for a minute. (But that's more in the Xone 92 range.)
Look at the Nuos.

...y'know, now that I'm looking at it I might get the 42. I can get a new one for 700 as opposed to a beat up 62.
I mayyyy.

It did indeed show up on Friday and my life has already changed because of it. I definitely give DJDeals a positive review. I ordered it Wednesday morning and had it Friday afternoon. It was $679, and then I paid another $75 for 2-day shipping. I noticed Agipro has it for $899 although I guess they could price match. Anyway, it was my first experience with DJDeals and I am not dissappointed in the slightest.
More importantly - this mixer rocks! In a matter of minutes of messing with the filter it has completely changed how I mix. Before getting it, I was kinda bummed it didn't have the 4-band eq, but after playing on it I can see how that doesn't really matter. I have always been and eq mixer but now I can just use the filter and it is smoooooth. Its so obvious to me now because the filter is basically doing what I was with the eqs (minus the mild to wild resonance).
And it does have four channels - the only drawback is that only two of them are phono. Of course, I don't remember the last time I saw someone using three turntables. So, in reality, you get 8 inputs, plus effects, plus a mic or USB. One of the main reasons I went this over the 32 is that I wanted to be able to have turntables, Serrato, and CDJs all hooked up at the same time without having to switch anything out. Now I am so glad I got it for so many other reasons as well.
The cueing is superb. You have multiple options for cue monitoring. You can split the master and cue in the head phones, you can blend the master into the cue, you can have the cue level show up as the master level, and you can have the master level be on the right and the cue on the left. Additionally, you can cue as many channels as you want at the same time and the headphones are pre-eq and pre-filter so you can hear your track clearly in the headphones will mixing it up with the filter out of the main.
Bottom line - it rocks and I could not be happier.
Nice...congrats.
You may have convinced me on the 42. Definitely could get it sooner and for cheaper, which is always better.

The other option is to buy non-Tech TTs. A lot of them now use line instead of phono.
I dont know.. i love 4band EQ and is the only thing i miss.
