Bedrock Nights: A Tribute [Dark Prog]

The first EDM album's I owned were Oakenfold's Tranceport and Digweed's GU 006. While I loved the upbeat, energetic anthem's of Oakenfold, I was entranced by Digweed's mysterious dark sound. As much as I am a Platipus addict I will always love Digweed's sound. Naturally when I started mixing the first thing I tried to do was make my own similar set.

This set really tries to recreate that sound and feeling as well as possible, and the tracklist definitely shows that off. Drawn mostly from Bedrock Records' catalog, with a few exceptions, these are some of my favorite Bedrock and dark prog songs.

I hope you'll love this as much as I do and that I've done a good job of capturing the feel of Digweed and Bedrock. Please let me know what you think of it and enjoy!

Tilt - 36 (Tilt's Numerology Dub)
Moonface - Futurised Fear (Unreleased Mix)
Evolution feat. Jayn Hanna - Walking On Fire (Bedrock Vocal Mix)
Sean Q6 - Of Course (Phillip Charles Remix)
Pole Folder & CP - Dust (Original Mix)
Bedrock - Heaven Scent (John Johnston Mix)
Bedrock - Beautiful Strange (Original Mix)
John Creamer & Stephane K - I Wish You Were Here (Original Mix)
Science Dept. - Repercussion (Funk Function's Future Mix)
Bedrock - Voices (Original Mix)

Shits right up my alley, will check it out.

I used to love this kind of sound. Definitely checking this out.

Thanks to everyone who's downloading it! I hope you're enjoying it!

Oh, nostalgia.

These tunes were what made me a prog head. Probably the first prog tune I ever heard was Bedrock - "For What You Dream Of", and not long after hearing it I bought several of Digweed's mix CDs and the unmixed Foundations compilation. Listened to them all soooo many times.

Will DL this.

Wish I could get to Soundcloud at work, this looks awesome.

Definitely enjoyed. As JBJ said, this type of stuff was what got me really into progressive. For me, the Bedrock sound that this mix seems to summarize to a point was one of the high points of this particular type of music.

Dark and driving, definitely the type of progressive I'm most down with at the moment. Nice mix mate.

Woot! Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

And yeah, as you could tell by the fact that I made this =p, I completely agree - I absolutely love this type of music, and still listen to Digweed's mixes today!

I am pretty stunned by how many people are both playing and downloading this. Thank you very much, I hope you're enjoying it! All feedback is welcome!

I had totally forgotten about that evolution track!!!! ITS HUGE!!! Gonna give this a listen this evening, but i must say you should have put Mass schizophrenia in there to...

great trackselection, but the mixing was at times off, and the transitions were rather short... But i really enjoyed listening to this

Posted by Lews on Oct-22-2009 03:07:

Hmm. Thanks for the praise, first of all lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

But the transitions were short? I let every song play out, practically, except for Of Course, which I admit I did barely use.

Still, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for listening

i mean the actual transitions between songs, i love the fact that u let the tracks play, anything else with this music doesnt feel right, hehe... Really enjoy listening to this still, so many memories from way back...

I've been listening to music like crazy lately as I've just returned to the scene...however I was really excited when I saw your mix posted as dark prog. I used to live for this sort of music and come from a mainly tech-trance and prog background when I was new to the music.

That said, the track selection is superb. Exactly what I needed to hear to revitalize me after work today...I miss these sounds so much, lots of great tracks.

I don't know if I'd agree with what someone said earlier about the mixes being short. I felt that they weren't so much brief as they were abrupt at times. Other than that the mixing was good.

The techniques used lent a positive air to the mix with mostly seamless blends. The best mixes are often those in which the mixes aren't very apparent. In this case the tracks you've chosen speak for themselves creating a very strong overall vibe.

I'm keeping this one on the iPod

Wow. Fine praise indeed. Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I do have to say, to be fair, that it's the quality of the music that makes this so good, I played but a small part (though technically isn't that the whole idea?).

No problem! And we could discuss the philosophy of DJ'ing all day

By the way feel free to check out my mix To Saturn and Back for a similar vibe (perhaps a bit less on the prog side).

I am honestly astounded by how many people have played and downloaded this. I'm going to assume that people are definitely enjoying it based on the positive feedback and the lack of negative feedback!

this mix is definitely one of my all time TA faves.

set programming is great, i have really enjoyed the part with Heaven Scent, Beautiful Strange and I Wish You Were Here!

i have nothing else to say other then great job!

Great track selection, brings back memories. Over all pretty good, beatmatching needs some work though.

Posted by Lews on Oct-27-2009 00:46:

Wow, thanks! I'd love to take credit, but it's all the music. I love Heaven Scent - > Beautiful Strange, and I thought I Wish You Were Here just mixed in perfectly with Beautiful Strange. I think it turned out very, very well.

Very glad you guys enjoyed it!

Posted by smekzg on Apr-16-2010 00:44:

Ahh can you reupload it or something? Soundcloud won't let me get it!

Posted by Psionic on Apr-17-2010 04:57:

I'm such a GU 006 whore, will listen to this!
