half ass review: Oakenfold not so Jokenfold anymore!
I liked his set last night. I'm glad I bought my ticket way before hand, as some of my friends didn't get in even after arriving at 11!
He played some pretty insane tracks and that (believe it or not) was the first time I heard "Digital Punk" live... it was pretty insane. I didn't like the track much when I listen to it in my car, but hearing it on the dancefloor was sth different. Same goes to Southern Sun! I was the Chinky dude who was YELLING the words out... sorry if my shrieking deafened anyone... not my intentions :P
However the crowd was the worst last night... if it's not for the cracked out 40 year old Asian parents,it's the ginos that started to annoy me.
The best part about all this was that Max Graham played a good hard beginning after Oakie... with breaks!
Can someone ID the tracks in Oakie's set please?
Cheers!
sounds like you had fun, I am not really upset that I ended up not going to this, there was no way I was gonna spend $45 to see Oakey play a 2 hour set!
Trancearmada
My only regret was that the crowd was chock full of ginos and other really jacked up, high, and full-of-themselves people... I'm claustrophobic to an extent as well, but I still managed to enjoy myself.
I guess the lesson I've learnt in the past is that if there are tickets on sale before hand... get your hands on them... especially if it's a well known act like Oakenfold. Even the ginos will pretend that they like Oakenfold, and they'll come out just because it's cool.
Having bashed them so much, SOME ginos were surprisingly polite. If you step out of the way for them, they give you a pat on the back and say thanks... but if you stand in their way, they think that you wanna start a fight and they two-handedly push you away (lol).
In retrospect, Oakenfold's set was REALLY good. I don't know if people agree, but he played his fair share of uplifting tunes, coupled in with REALLY banging progressive trance (not progressive house). The breaks in the end (which Max continued) included a Breaks remix of Dirty Vegas - Days Go By (Don't know which remix, someone can help perhaps?)...
I lost the plot a few times, with tears as well!
Cheers
what else is new, the whole thing about ginos is so tired. I am actually getting sick of even me complaining. Yeah there are some nice people but there are some assholes too!
BTW about buying advance tickets, that's not true you always risk when you buy an advanced ticket, take a look at Wintergalactic for example! And they had big names like Marco V and what not. But what ever, there are always pros and cons to buying tickets early or late.
About Oakey's set I am surprised that his whole set wasn't just breaks, because this is what he's been into as of late. That remix of "Days Go By" I think is just called a "Dub Remix" at least that's what one of his playlists said.
Always complainging aobut this and that.. people lighten up! it was a great party last night.. Oakenfold spun a great set.. the crowd was great and honestly, this time oaky out did graham!
I met up with some ta's there , stereo princess "hi again its nice to see that you came all the way down from ottawa for this!"
Drizzit, it was cool hangin with ya most of the night.. it was a pounding fucking set!

Party Night
I agree.....Oakenfold was amazing last night..he spun a lot of good trance tunes which i cant remember for the life of me, but when he spun CJ Bolland- the Prophet, there was a string of 3 or 4 killer classic tunes.
Max Graham was fantastic as well...When he dropped "Airtight" the crowd went nuts....
I thought the crowd was pretty good though.....not as many cracked out asians as a Saturday night...and I wouldnt even call those shirtless monsters "Ginos", theyre just juice pigs who are there to waste time before the gym opens at 9am. Ive never seen them cause any problems....the girls there were so hot , albeit the guy to girl ratio was around 10 : 1 .......they were the hottest in Skybar.
One thing i didnt like was that all of the ppl that hung out outside seemed like they were just there to chill and talk, noone was partying on the Guv patio, and skybar cleared out early.....
The true partiers stuck it through the heat and danced right in the centre of Guv. I was in and out all throught the night.....climbed so many frickin stairs..
All in all , great night though, definitely worth the 35 beans!
Someone needs to make a sticky gino thread in this forum specially made for the TO peeps, lol .. it could have all the complaints, rants, flames, FAQ, etc.
almost every review from the Guv has a post about them and then the topic changes gears.. with this sticky thread maybe threads like these can stay on topic

Oakenfold simply put on a show. His set last night totally changed my view on what kind of a dj this man really is. As most of you have already mentioned, pounding tracks were being thrown back and forth. Really enjoyed the breaks. The people were generally cool, not too much sketch. It was great to run into NRG2infinite, trancegeek and justin. All in all, i couldn't of have spent my birthday any better way.
peace,
Dave

You should have seen me! I mean where the hell did that huge fan go??? What the hell is up with the ventilation @ the GUV!
Read this thread to get all your gino questions answered...
..but you're on accurate on some accounts, as you'll see when you read that, heh.
After staying up all night Saturday partying, then watching World Cup finals and then celebrating Brazil's championiship on Sunday.. wandering around the city for the rest of the day and hitting a house party last night, I was totally exhausted at 4 am, after not sleeping for almost 48 hours.
I was in no shape for Guvernment to say the least...
Don't regret missing that party either.
Trancegeek? Fantom? I wanna hear your opinions (=
Oakenfold's set was about was I expected so I wasn't disappointed at all...but I think Max Graham might have stolen the show..his set at the beginning of the night was great but it was better after Oakenfold left. I have a new respect for Max Graham.
Can anyone ID any songs between 3:30 and 5?
meetup? what meetup??
we really should have some sort of arrangements before attending events if we want to meet. or did you guys arrange privately, behind the forum?
i went there at 11:30pm, waited at the acid lounge until 1am. i was like an idiot, asking quite a few people if they were from TA...
me:
"hey uhm...
are you from tranceaddict dot com?"
them: "tranceaddict dot com? (*cackles) no."
me:
"sorry, never mind."
-- until i realized what a fuckin idiot i was.
so i didn't meet anyone 'cept ali2002. meetup aside, i had a fairly good time. took some pictures, made a friend, met a few guys and their girls. i went insane when Oakey played Ferry Corsten's "Punk"...
me: "you paid 10 bucks for your photo being taken??"
him: "yea. it's a memory, why not?"
me:
"heh, i could have done that for absolutely free, want me to do it?"
him: "sure."
(picture taken)
me: "i can e-mail you... YEEEEEOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!"
(danced to "Punk")
me: "hehe, sorry. i can e-mail you the picture if you like."
him: "nah, that's fine."
funny that most people were going because of Oakenfold, when Max played thrice as longer. i didn't care much about Oakey, though. i wasn't even really listen at all, and wanted to leave at one point. Max was absolutely brill, during the final hour he went more playful, and mixed breakbeat, house, and trip-hop (yes, it's Massive Attack's "Dissolved Girl", LOL) into his set. i was outside the orange room on the deck, next to a radge who poured water onto the people below. must be too fucked up eh?
i wasn't sure if i should post this pic 'cos (1) i looked horrible, (2) it's hosted on my computer and lately i don't have much bandwidth, (3) it looks kinda like i pasted my head next to Max.
but what the hell, this is what you get when you're shooting yourself, and when the man himself is in a hurry.
wince, shriek, puke all you want.
laterz.
wow.....seems like whoever went for the music had a great time, which was my reason for going to this party.....but I never made it....I waved goodbye to the last GO bus as I was still walking to the stop, but I guess it worked out for the best since some of you are saying some of the people that showed up at 11 never got in.....meaning I probably wouldn't have gotten in arriving at around midnite anyway!
Glad you guys had fun, I was a little hesitant about the Kool Haus being an official pride event and all....what was that like!?!

well, whoever keeps saying that oakie is mellow and shit, has got to actually go and see him live for once... this was my 2nd time seeing him live and he ripped it up, again! he started off with some hard driving progressive in the first hour, the 2nd hour he just completely destroyed the place! max openned up great for him, really good openning set, hard driving tec-house i guess *shrugs*...
anyway, the crowd was the worst EVER! i guess cuz it was long weekend so all the wrong people showed up... *pukes* ... sooo crowded, i hoped at least with tix being 40 bucks they would limit it to a certian number of poeple... or at least have oakie in the kool haus!
... plus it was soooo hot in there, wow, it was never as hot in there as on sunday! what the hell happened to those huge fans!? i couldn't take it so i left right after oakies set... ugh!
so yea, was it worth it, meh, it was, just barely though
ps. dave, didn't know it was your birthday, happy bday dude!!
Yes, what the heck happened to the meetup. I waited in the acid lounge too. I guess fieroavian just asked the wrong peeps. I asked some too but also felt like an idiot.
I found the party to be quite confortable. I mean I have seen worse crowds at the Guv and I don't even go there as much as some of you. Trancearmada, I knew that you were not coming but I saw a guy that looked like you so I thought maybe you changed your mind but it wasn't you so I just made a fool of myself and probably scared the guy.
Music wise I had a great time, except Oakie did not impress me that much but then again he would have to pull out all the stops to impress me. I'm glad i went though just to check out the hype. Max Graham was kick ass. Some parts more than others but still very good over all.
Nice seeing you again Nrg2Nfinit, it was a surprise to see you.
After the guv party, me and Gamma returned to Ottawa and went downtown for the Canada Day festivities and we went to check out Max at a parking lot party and it was actually a great time and it only cost ten bucks so it was all worth it. I'm just a little short on sleep today. Hope to see some of you at the next party I attend (this means you, Swamper!).

!!!!
I had an AMAZING time....Max Graham, WOW, kiked Oakies ass...I have not seen the Guv like that in a long time...A sea of people with their hands in the air till 7am!!
Sunday night was Max Graham's night at the Guvernment, In my opinion one of the best performances I have seen put on by a dj. He made my feet keep moving til 5:30 in the morning, yet the energy could not of possibly come from my body, it was all the music. I thought Paul Oakenfold did a good job too, I have to admit i expected him to suck, but he threw in some good tunes, not to mention "Obsession" by Tiesto, byfar the best song i heard all night. As far as the ginos i must comment on this and be reminded i am girl who doesn't mind lookin at a hot guy. Those dudes need to stay home infront of the mirror or go chill with the gay dudes in the kool hause because they took up much needed dance space and ventilation at the Guvernment. All in all, it was definately worth the drive and money, and i am glad i didn't miss it.
GoDutch, just noticed that you're from NY. i met 4 guys and girls on the deck who drove 4 hrs from the States, were you one of them?
sorry, never made it to the deck!!!
Wasted......
WOW...can't say enough about the time I had...I partied my ass off to some of the best music I had heard in awhile...Oakenfold was amazing and as for Max mind blowing untill the end at 8 in the morning...The sets were great but the hightlight for me did not happen inside of the Guv but up at Skybar...7 am in the morning about 150 people still banging away to some great House that ADDY was spinning ...sun is up and then for the second time that night I hear Southern Sun....and everyone just starts jumping and dancing on that roof top...just amazing and thinking about puts the biggest smile on my face...I'm not going to complain about the crowd cause every place has it good side and bad ...for me the music was amazing and I had a huge smile on my face when I left at 8 am what more could you want at the end of the night....
Cheers ya'll
