Smoking ..umm..something My brand spanking new TT's!

After 5 1/2 months of saving I finally got my decks in the mail last week on Wen. God damn UPS charged me GST/PST/Broakarage Fees/Brokarage Tax = $405 CAD! WTF! Only cause I ordered from the states!
I ended up spending something like $2500.00 (incl all those above charges) on my setup, but it was well worth it.
When they finally arrived after a huge dispute with those retards at UPS I was so excited! I think it was the biggest excitement in my life! When I opened up the box with the mixer I wanted it to have my babies! Same goes for my TT's!

I love my setup oh and I ordered some vinyl from www.only-djs.com it only took them 3 business days to deliver, even though I picked the cheapest way of delivery which was suposed to be 11 business days!

ok well here is my setup:

Stanton STR8-100's x 2
Vestax PCV-275
Stanton Groove Master II RM's x2
Sony MDRV-700DJ (I am thinking of getting something else I don't like these too much, too bulky and too much bass)

And an old shity stereo, don't have the money for a nice amp and speakers, soon hopefully!

Now I am a happy camper with my equipment and my brand new collections of 49 vinyls!

Simply love it! Although I am still in debt for like $400 dollars I owe someone for letting me borrow money to pay off those assholes at UPS!

I am not posting this to show off but rather to tell ppl if you spend 5 mothns working your ass off and limiting yourself on spending this is what you can get out of it!

[EDIT]

DAMN, niceness although I personally have a beef with ur V700s and your sound system setup, but it sounds like your future investments would cover those up

well to tell you the truth I don't like those v700's after testing them out for a couple of days they feel too bulky and the there is way too much bass, i am gonna get either a pair of Techincs or Sennehisers.

As for the sound system I am not a big expert in that just yet, so I have to take a look around. If you could help out with what I should go with let me know!

doesn't it just suck to live in Canada tho.. it always comes out to about 130% of the selling price when you import stuff cuz of GST, PST, duties, etc.. I've felt your pain several times, especially with UPS, and there isn't really any way around it (I try to go across the border a lot of times to shop for lesser taxes, etc... but then going through customs is a bitch)

My opinion, go for the Senns Although, again, they're not readily available in Canada so you have to do some over-the-border shopping. Something affordable would probably be the Senn HD280 pros... I want to own a pair myself if I had the will to shell out the money

see the thing is I wanted to buy the decks in Canada originally but I could not find them anywhere here not even online Canadian shops thus I ordered off an American website. First I had to deal with www.pssl.com the worst service ever, never order off them. I had to go with www.DJdepot.com and it was all painless and easy except for the UPS part! I hate those morons, and than they lied to me that the tried to do a Second attempt for delivery and no on ever showed up and I waisted a day waiting by the front door! Well it's a long story, but yeah I hate dealin with UPS now!

well actually I am thinkin of getting SONY MDR-7506 Studio Standard Headphones, I know that SASHA swears by them apparently! They are about $110 US but they are really hard to find, but I do know of a place where to get them!

I have a pair of those I mostly know a lot about portable headphones tho, I own like a dozen different pairs of them But, anyway, the 7506's are good, balanced bass (not excessive like the V700s) and really analytical with the high end of the audio spectrum (you can really notice this when listening to tunes with vocals). You can get the same type of model for cheaper, if you purchase the V6's (not the V600s). They sell for less because they are the "digital" version and not the "professional" version. But in actuality V6's = 7506's. The V6's aren't available in Canada, but can be imported again. Turns out with duties, taxes and shit like that it will come out for less than paying for the 7506's which are available in Canada.

Hope this helps (with your sound setup and your budget)

Try etronics.com -- they ship to Canada and they quote actual prices in Canadian dollars (no surprise shipping, taxes, etc.)

You might come up with a better deal if you do some searches under shopping.yahoo.com or eBay.ca (if you trust eBay)..

see the funny thing is I ordered vinyl out of Holland and it came within 3 days! WOW! and they used DHL, and I did not have to pay a penny and the vinyl I ordered was worth like $400 USD! So frankly I don't understand why I had to pay for COD's when I ordered from the States especially New York, cause this is where the equipment came from!

nice set up trancearmada! I can't wait to get mine

I'm currently saving up to get my TTs, my friend's girlfriend has virtually new 1200s although the mixer is American DJ however this offer is for (USD)$700 which is difficult to pass up.

I was going to ship them via UPS from Cali, ur starting to make me hesitate now though!? what should i do?

Posted by trancearmada on Jul-02-2002 14:46:

well i guess if you bring them across the border the will only charge you the PST/GST but than you have to spend on the travel time and money, so which ever is easier for you. you can always try and run across the border un-noticed but that's gonna be hard to do since after the whole 9-11 deal the security is tight now!

I mean you will have to pay for some of the COD either way! So what ever is easier for you I guess

they heavy bass from your speakers will prove to be more important if you ever plan to play in a club (reminder that it'll prove usefull for beatmatching), and also the reason that people get 1200s, is (as you obviously know) because that's what 95% of clubs use.. sure some Vestax are notably better and your stantons might of provided a better price/performance.. but I just hope it wont be too ruff on you if you ever get to spin at a club

(just my 2cents).. congrats on the purchase, many people (incl. myself) always thought at one point that they want to be DJs..

now you just got to work on knowing people.. because that's what its all about in the end.. knowing people to get gigs, knowing people to get on promo lists to get vinyl before evreyone else.. oh, and there's some skill involved, wouldn't worry about that, its not extremely difficuly especially for someone that loves teh music

thanx,

I feel like some ppl are starting to doubt me (not you) but others on this board. I mean they have not even heard what my style or my mixing is like but they start bashig me for the smallest things, like the kind of TT's I purchased and that they are better DJ's than me and what not. I mean I just bought the decks never used the to professionally mix with them before this in my life. Should I just be ignorant as fuck and sticky to it. FUCK, I mean what is it with all this pressure! YUKS!

Well I'm not actually going to the states and getting the tables, my friend (the girl im buying them from) is going to send them to me. I wouldnt try to run across with them either.....im Arab and getting through that border discretely now is not worth it....my friend just got turned back from there.....but anyway.....

everybody just has been telling get them shipped via UPS.....

and man, dont let anyone get to you about ANYTHING!!!
be open minded, take some advice because getting different view points is a good thing....dont take anything personally though, it'll just hinder you more.....

just be focused, know what you want, and go for it!!!!
ur the only one wearing your shoes as corny as that might sound....but I just mean nobody else can be YOU!
