Angry Is this guys actually djing, or is he deceiving the crowd?

Hi everyone im new here(not really, but just registered)

heres a question for everyone in here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32_9O1p1nrs
btw he's using serato scratch live
all i see him doing is using the effects on the mixer. He is not touching the tempo or anything. Is he actually djing, this is retarded :P

moreover, this guy dj's regularly at a club in hollywood called "The Heist" and he does the same thing there, and so do other dj's that perform there. Has djing become this easy?

Posted by DJ_Rafnel on Oct-13-2009 08:27:

Yeah he is...gosh horrible tune though. This just isn't trance you know. I mean, DJing is what you make of it i guess. There's some "DJ"s these days that have their sets pre programmed out in Ableton for the most part, and others who still use vinyl.

Most use CDJs these days including me. I feel its the best way to stay up with technology, with keeping the old feel.

I didn't actualy hear the track so can't comment on that, but in regards to the question is he DJing?
Yes he is.

If you look closely he did a spindle tweak on the closest deck. appears to be using time coded vinyl.
The crowd are into it and he is getting a reaction when he asks them for one. I would say that at face value it is everything that a DJ should be regardless of genre.

If by DJing you mean you want to see a guy spend ages cueing and matching then you have probably seen DJs who don't have much routine playing out.

If you see me play, you hardly see me do much of that as routine and record familiarity mean that it's not something I have to spend a lot of time on.

If you are talking about turntablist skills then you are looking at the wrong genre for the most part.

Cheers
Nem

Is this guy DJing or deceiving the crowd.

Yes or no?

Yes or no to which part?

Yes, he's DJing... in the first 8secs you can see him twist the spindle on the nearest deck (likely to adjust the beatmatch), as well as adjust the pitch fader, as for you seeing him use the effects?? you must be watching a different video, because this guy didn't touch the effects once... only EQ's and Gain from what I saw.

Like Nem said, the crowd is into it, so no matter what he's doing something right.

You ask this question as if you are more talented or something, yet you didn't even notice him making the adjustments or being able to tell the difference between the EQ section of the mixer and the Effects? (ie: bottom right corner of the mixer)

err im not gonna argue with you. Since when did i say that i was better than him? I never stated. A question is just a question ok, no need to go putting a dildo up ur butt. Anyways, maybe u could try lookin at his other videos. geez :P
we're talking about the guy here not me...ok? you couldve jsut said that he was djing without having to insult me.

I didn't see anything out of the ordinary besides some gratuitous knob twisting. (Well, Peter Hook is gratuitous.)

I never said you were better, I simply stated you are accusing him as if you are better.

I did watch other videos and guess what, your accusation of "all i see him doing is using the effects on the mixer. He is not touching the tempo or anything" is wrong. (that was obvious from the original link YOU provided).

Eitherway, Why should I have to go looking for OTHER video's when the one you provided completely disproves your own accusation of him cheating?

Provide me with a link TO the video you want me to watch, where all he's doing is effects unit on the mixer and no tempo control/adjustments.

there ya go i just wanted an answer. I'm a newb to djing and willing to improve, all i wanted to know if he was djing or not, it all seemed too easy, the way he was doing, as oppose to how a-trak, boyznoize, d.i.m. do it. I'm speaking on behalf of electro mixing btw. However, im a trance fanatic.

Actually, the best way to do that would be a DVS

i think there are more people that are serato/vinyl fantics, not me though(i know here in los angeles they are).

Posted by DJ_Rafnel on Oct-15-2009 03:12:

Idk, maybe one day ill get into the Serato deal. Id buy a set of 1210s though if i did. I would rather use those instead of CDJs.
