Lounge/Chillout/Ambient
I've been listening to alot of Hed Kandi's compilation such as Acid Lounge, Winter Chill, etc...
I feel hypnotized when I listen to some of the tracks. They are BEAUTIFUL. Now, I know their methods of composition & tools are different from trance.
I would really like to get some insights into what kind of tools they use to make music like this. I know for a fact that there is alot of sampling done. But what about the pads, synth sounds, bass, etc..?
Here's two example of my favorite tracks...there's MANY, but I don't want to post too many links:

its actually alot of the same vsts and synths that the trance guys use. everything is pretty much the same just different bpm.
Indeed. It's all about layering and an absolute tonne of what people refer to as "atmosphere". Random hits here and there, unique sounds, ethereal pads and so on.

I think this is what should more commonly be reffered to as "trance", and what is currently reffered to as "trance" should be called "dance".
I find myself liking these kind of tunes much more than alot of the current trance out there (135+ bpm), along with chicanes older stuff (far from the maddening crowds is one of my favourite albums), and also like mr. mystery's album.
