It's actually a tactic to make things more hygienic. If you are aiming at something in the bowl, you are less likely to get your piss all over the wall when you are drunk.

Pretty smart.

It was me who suggested that idea to Dave and Terry at the Zone many years ago. Not sure if they still do it...
