Denys Envy - Fall 2009 Mix (House)

http://www.sushipunk.net/Mixes/Deny...02009%20Mix.wma

it was recorded (by mistake) as a .wma file - let me know if this is a problem and i'll see what i can do about transferring it into an .mp3

1. Pole Folder - Hollow (Robert Babicz Saturn Rings Mix) [La Tour]
2. Oxia - Whole Life (Original Mix) [8Bit]
3. Sebastian Davidson - Body Music (Original Mix) [Night Drive Music]
4. Florian Kruse - Be Active (Sei A Vocal Mix) [Brown Eyed Boyz]
5. Blu Mar Ten - Home Videos (Terry Lee Brown Junior Remix) [Plastic City]
6. Transform - Transformation (Analog Memory Remix) [It.sounds]
7. Tom Middleton - Kalahari (San Wedding Mix) [Kostbar Musik]
8. Shonky - Mama Queen (Original Mix) [Contexterrior]
9. Sebastian Davidson - Tronique (Original Mix) [Night Drive Music]
10. Code 718 - Equinox (Henrik Schwarz Remix) [Kontor]
11. Hipp-E - Sweet Sticky (Scope Remix) [Onethirty]
12. Mutant Clan, Timo Maas & Santos - Kenesai (Original Mix) [Fullscale Music]
13. Johnny D - Brasil (Original Mix) [Cocoon]
14. Leon - Negro (Original Mix) [Viva Music]
15. Claude VonStroke - Vocal Chords (Original Mix) [dirtybird]
16. Gui Boratto - It's Majik (Terry Lee Brown Junior Remix) [Plastic City]
17. Halo feat. That Kid Adam - Lakeshore Dr (Original Mix) [Bluem] <---- old school track of the mix
18. Akabu - I'm Not Afraid Of The Future (Stereotypy's Acid Disco Mix) [unreleased]

Quick notes - The mix was recorded a little loud (I think...) so turn the knob down just a tad... maybe I'm being too critical.

Also started a new "thing" with this mix. As many of you know I keep it seasonal (fall/winter/spring/summer) and try to maintain a fairly fresh tracklist. From now on I'm going to include at least one "old school track"... which for me is like before 2004 lol. Anyway it'll generally be a tune that I still play out - one of those timeless tracks that everyone who plays/listens to this type of stuff should have in rotation. #17 (as you will notice) falls into that category this time around.

Enjoy!

...i guess. i recorded by feeding it into the laptop through some new software. must've not configured properly... is .wma bad?

It'll work fine for Windows users (wma = windows media audio). No idea for Mac users though... Anyone know?

Edit: I can change it to mp3 in Audacity and re-upload, if it's gonna be an issue for people.

I will if I can figure out how to do it My last 2 attempts just failed, and the full track length was 0.00.00 minutes long.

I'm in, tracklist looks interesting... used to be a big fan of Halo / Hipp-E and that kinda stuff... been kinda wondering what they've been up to now.

Posted by tubularbills on Oct-15-2009 18:54:

so i couldn't wait for an .mp3 and downloaded the .wma.

overall this is what i would describe as typcial "denys". very funky and deep; with some occasional hot spots that really stick out in my ears. whatever is going on from like 39-46 mins in was awesome. and i really liked the beginning a lot too.

some other stuff that was a bit too "funk" for me (i.e. around 25 min point and also at 57 min)...but good to expand on the various sounds; and not just stick with one style/subgenre.

thanks for listening. and there's no such thing as too much "funk", but i think i know what you mean.

i wasn't trying to say that all your stuff sounds the same; but at least the same subgenres, per-say.

Posted by Omega_Blue on Oct-16-2009 01:36:

alrighty denys, i checked it out last night

i don't have a ton of experiences with your mixes but i do love your style in this one. really upbeat, danceable, "club music" heh, but still nice and deep.

if there were only two gripes that i have with the mix, it would be that the intro was a little bit too "in your face" for me, like, if it slowly faded in it might be a bit easier on the ears at first. also, your track selection and flow are fantastic but i wish you would've focused more on harmonic mixing, there are some really genius transitions in this mix, and a select few where i kept wishing the tracks were in the same key.

hope you're not taking offense at all because i really feel the mix is solid, but i also don't wanna dick you around with how i feel about it technically, from one dj to another. nah mean nigga.

also, cheers on using my track, you don't know how much that means to me man.

closing out sets the rest of 2009 with it

as for the mix, i know what you mean. i need to stop mixing drunk, i get too aggressive.

personally i like the first 25 mins of my mix, the rest i could feed to the dogs. plus i should've turned the master down a bit... i might go back in this weekend and re-mix/record the whole thing. i like my track selection, but a few things can be re-arranged and mixed in later, etc... overall it's solid, but definitely not where it "can" be.

anyway cheers for a proper review and keep the production up, i'm loving it.

no, i know what you mean. over the years i've developed a certain style of tracks that i will consider and the way i mix them. a lot of it is actually influenced by TAs.

definitely taking it as a compliment, it's nice to have a recognizable "sound"/style.

Posted by kadomony on Oct-18-2009 04:20:

rrrrrrrreally cool, dude
..if a little loud :P

particular fav mix was
15. Claude VonStroke - Vocal Chords (Original Mix) [dirtybird]
16. Gui Boratto - It's Majik (Terry Lee Brown Junior Remix) [Plastic City]

nice one!
