yea most definately. would definately love to hear that sound at stereo. too bad we dont get to see much of it. mark farina is kinda hit and miss. fabric 40 and tokyo are definately good sets. tough call on some of his others. dj heather definately top notch. either way cant wait!

Posted by John_H2O on Oct-21-2009 12:54:

yeah for sure hard to find Farina stuff or live sets. What is that venue, Ritual? Club/bar/supper club?

Maybe will think about roadtrip for this

Posted by otown Matt on Oct-21-2009 14:54:

Ritual is the old Atomic (probably Ottawa's best afterhours ever).

It's a 2 floor venue.

Just got my tix last night ... the early birds are basically all gone (6 left)

Farina is gonna open the night downstairs with a Mushroom jazz set, and then head upstairs to do a house set. I can't wait for this night.

and I agree, seeing him in Stereo again would be fuckin awesome.

One of my fav nites in Stereo was during their 8th anniversary in Nov 06 and Farina played the Friday nite.

yea this two set idea is pretty cool. im more looking forwards to his house set. best night at stereo was definately miss honey dijon. i think it was summer 07. wow what a night. nothing but bass thumping chi-town jack! epic night. i saw her at heaven as well not too long ago. i dont know i wasnt feeling her/his set that night lol.

Posted by otown Matt on Oct-21-2009 17:13:

agree about the house set. Not a huge fan of the mushroom jazz, but at least this will hopefully bring people out earlier in the night, which will make for a better party overall.

I've seen Miss Honey, Heather, and Farina all many times in Stereo, and they were all great nights.

Miss Honey did pretty good at the Rainbow party @ Ritual during Ottawa pride, but not the same as seeing her in afterhours fo sho.

It was kinda weird coming in to Stereo a few weeks ago and seeing her opening the place. I guess Tom Stephan is a bigger name, but IMO she should have been the headliner.

I also saw Honey Dijon at Stereo a couple weekends ago and thought she was amazing. I left before Tom Stephan came on though, didn't want to stay out to late because I was going to Black and Blue the next day. But I heard Tom Stephan wasn't that great anyhow.

A friend of mine in MTL who used to work at Karma was there the night Mark Farina was at Karma according to him Mark was great that night, he enjoyed it. But I personally have always been 50/50 about Mark Farina I have heard his stuff and some of it is ok but I'm also not really into the mushroom house. I will most likely end up going to check him out at Ritual, mainly because one of my friends here in Ottawa keeps asking me to go with her. I will most likely skip the earlier mushroom jazz set, and come for the second part. So I'm hoping if I go in with low expectations I will come out being wow'd.

yea most definately. glad to finally see some people into this genre. i think alot of people under estimate it or just dont give it a shot. imo the chicago sounds is by far the best house sound i`ve ever heard. elements of hip hop, disco, jazz etc fused into one sounds. its a beautiful thing. plus its rooted from probably the best times in music history. the disco era. even though farina is 50 50 im still really stoked for this. drinks flowing while listening to some of that funk!

So it's afterhours venue? Or they change the place into regular club with boose.

Dj Eterno...Happy to see someone who dig this sound too. We are invaded by techno/tech house everywhere now, and people have tendancy to forget chicago house and their artist. Farina never dissapoint me at all (many Stereo, Washington DC, ect.) except for last time at Karma who he plays more ramdom house, not much of funk/soul/break he use to put in his set. But still was a great night, maybe he went for secure material 'cause it's ramdom club on st-laurent, or maybe Quebec lavander turn his brain upside down!!...don't know

Posted by otown Matt on Oct-22-2009 15:06:

nope ... afterhours is dead in Ottawa ... its still in gatineau @ bpm

atomic used to run 10pm -7am.

Ritual is just regular club hours

Posted by otown Matt on Oct-22-2009 15:08:

and btw, chicago house is the only REAL house music, IMO

all the rest is just different forms of dance music lol

then you'll probably enjoy the music more than those who haven't been open-minded to this kind of house.I'm starting to hear some deep, chi, acid and mushroom jazz tracks in a lot of recent dj sets I've downloaded and I personally find it refreshing, sort of adding some funk to the dancefloor again.....it's the stuff that got me into house in the first place.

Also, check your inbox early next week

there may be a few early birds left at $20, but it is probably $25 now.

I got mine at Reap and Sew (new clothing store directly across the street from Mansion (the old Heaven))

thanks.

you should all check out Pump up the Volume. its a documentary on the history of house. its on youtube and google video. definately worth checking out. really goes in detail about where this stuff came from. dates back to the disco scene in New York and Chicago in the 70`s. also mentions legendary clubs like Paradise Garage and the Music Box. check it out!
