What's your opinion on LinkedIn?

Is it helpful? Is it for people with no social skills that are hoping to network? Is it worth my time?

I'm hoping that I can find a few friends of friends on there that have careers in areas I am interested in.. Maybe to help me arrange a few information interviews while I try to figure out what I want to do with my life after graduation.

Does anyone have any experience with it?

YEP!

It can't hurt, and it will definitely expand your network... Will it necessarily lead to job interviews? It all depends what you do with it, that's like asking if Facebook will help you find your soulmate lol (it's possible!)

A. I know a few of my classmates who try and use it to find jobs for co-op ... it works ish for them.

B. We use it as well for recruiting sales reps for Harman ... its an intresting resource, but sometimes you wont believe what people write on a professional networking site lol.

But all in all ya it can work if you use it correctly.

Really good idea for doing some networking. I never fully got into it, I started setting up a profile under the company I used to work for but never got around to using it as a benefit to myself. This thread just reminded me, thanks Tara!!

I've gotten a few invitations from upper year colleagues and just ignored them b/c I thought it was like all those other invitations to join a random networking site or those sites to keep your friends' contact information organized, like that Wayne one I think. If it'll actually help networking for legal careers though I may think about joining.

I get invites all the time from work colleagues in the industry but I've never bothered to sign up. I do enough networking as it is and I'm not looking to leave my position anytime soon.

Not sure what value this has to me?

Linked in is good imo. There are plenty of business related and technical forums. It allows you to participate on topics you care about...and oftentimes in a locale close to you.

I also use it to check the profiles of the execs at my work....and see their new contacts, it does help seeing whats happening or what may happen
