Trance Nation by Ferry Corsten

If you're looking for old stuff:
Behind the Eye Vol. 1
X-Mix-1: The MFS Trip
Spark - Dayspring Collective

Mainstream Classics:
Tranceport - Paul Oakenfold
Gatecrasher (Classics Vol. 2/ National Anthems/Wet/etc.)
Dave Pearce Trance Anthems 2009 (has some newer stuff too)

Newer Unicorn Stuff:
ASOT 2004
ASOT 2007
Anjunabeats Vol. 6

By no means do I claim those to be definitive of anything, they are just the ones that I like.

I still like Right of Way by Ferry.

Skip L.E.F. and check out Twice In A Blue Moon. While it's nothing special it's still somewhat decent ("trance" as opposed to his "electro" influenced stuff) compared to the AvB trash, but then again anything anything will be decent compared to that.

For a good mix album check out Ferry Corsten Mixed Live - Spundae @ Circus, Los Angeles (2003)

Used to? Why are you all so embarassed about what music from the past you like?

I loved it and am certainly not going to say I no longer like it so I can fit in with the cool, hipster mnml crowd. You either like it or you don't. There's no need to be embarassed about tracks from the past, especially ones that were big hits.

But what did he really mean?
Mix cd's (mixed compilations) are much better than albums IMO.
Just don't understand why most recommendations are albums over here. Albums are just 10% of my collection.
