Thumbs down promoting getting out of hand?

anyone else feel like the promoting on this board is getting out of hand?

event threads are being started way too early. didnt we used to have a rule about that? some threads we obviously have no problems with (like ones made by kaenow cuz he contributes to the forum in other ways), but others like the ones made by that full on douchebag or meeko... they never post anything other than their own parties they are promoting. theyve been told to use the events thread but still never do it.

anyone else getting tired of seeing all this spam? or am i the only one?

to be honest, it doesn't really bother me solely because of the fact that the florida thread is pretty dead. in any given normal, non-wmc related day, there are really maybe only 1 or 2 new threads that pop up. i find it easy enough to sift through.

but on the other side, rules are rules and if there are rules against that, then those posters should abide by them.

I agree and disagree on this.

Posted by PatMcGroin on Oct-25-2009 02:58:

promoting to a certain degree i have zero problem with and yes the forum is dead, but that fact that its only filled with bs threads has somewhat to do with that. who wants to post here when all this is a big advertisement anyway?

its not promoting per say thats the problem, its who its by. full on and meeko contribute ZERO. all they post is events with their shitty flyers which NONE of us ever go to. what is the point? its JUST clutter. riotgear and kaenow atleast promote shit we actually go to AND they post about other shit than just their events.

oh and we DID kick all the atlanta people out of this forum when it was the southeast forum many years ago for this same exact reason. liquified was promoting all their events and because none of us cared we kicked them out. dont know how many people remember that, but yea, thats how it went down. so how is this any different?

Posted by life thru HD on Oct-25-2009 04:23:

i don't think its out of hand. i mean apart from the threads that contain big gigs, the FL Event thread is kind of dead lol- but it's also good that TA has a big group of dedicated contributors such as yourself. I dont really see it as a problem, some people just think "spamming" without any research beforehand is a good marketing technique

however i do think that the WMC thread was started wayy too early..

Posted by bigjimslade002 on Oct-25-2009 06:19:

im inclined to agree.one thing i dont like is someone spams the board here and have no idea what this site is about, doesent care about the music,or anything to do with the scene.

they only know about this site from people who have talked about it or heard about it somewhere and see it as a way to further thier own means.even the club i go to is guilty of doin that here.

if your one of these promoters who do this trust me,people on here can tell.go spam another site

Posted by orTofnChiLd on Oct-25-2009 15:44:

they should be banned

PHHEEEWWW lol

I was thinking I was about to get chewed out on this thread Thanks Pat I usually just post things that I'm directly affiliated with (djing at) or if it's something really good that has been overlooked. Kaeno is a really cool guy. I'm glad he posts his podcasts. I get them every week, and really enjoy them.

Let me know though if it gets annoying I'll figure out other ways to promote events. I don't want this to be like "when you walk up to your car and there's a flyer stuck to your window after it rained".

I just searched on Facebook for an official TA group, and did not find one. Am I missing something or is there really not a group? That could help to eliminate a lot of clutter on this board if you could direct random promoters to the group for event posts.

I sometimes see those Meeko threads but shortly after Manny merges it with the events thread.

I totally agree on spamming. I fuking complain about that shit all the time in NY. You guys think you have it bad?

That shit is a disaster. All these stupid little nobodies throwing stupid little wack parties.

thank fuk ny is finally getting a mod after 5 fuking years. Maybe you should just tell Manny - he will have no problem cleaning this place up if you bring it to his attn <3

oh, not to mention we have 3 threads for 1 event plus 1 roll call plus 1 review. Shits insane.

I just started browsing now but saw this.

Something like this can not happen. You can not keep bumping your own thread just to get it to the top. Posts should be deleted or thread locked or something. Maybe Manny has just becomes used to overlooking Meeko's threads haha. i know i do!

exactly.

to a certain degree promoting is okay, but thats the perfect example of whats bothering me.

i just wanted to find out how other people felt about this... if everyone decides they dont care then whatever, i'll just let the issue die.

Posted by echoform on Oct-25-2009 19:34:

Personally I dont mind.. Although I do agree that for any gigs other then headliners or contributing members should be posted in events thread (in proper format plz! or else im not adding it...

Time is not really an issue.. If its not an interesting enough event then it will work its way to the bottom.... Plus, there are lots of TA's which haunt the boards and don't post; They are just here to see what events are in their area...

Posted by Rose on Oct-25-2009 20:24:

Meh - like most people said, this forum is DEAD. But it is annoying to see nothing but events threads. Especially when no one on the forum even posts in those threads except for the person promoting the party.

Posted by charon on Oct-25-2009 22:21:

I haven't read the whole thread because I shouldn't be procrastinating, but whats the big fucking deal??? If you don't care about the event, don't click on the link. They are not spamming, they are making threads in an otherwise dead forum about real events that are happening and people go to. Just because you don't go, doesn't mean no one goes. This is the Florida forum, not the PatMcGroin forum so fuck off

Those spamming threads shouldn't be there in the first place, obviously the majority of us isn't going to watch meeko spin or go to his parties. ONly events that deserve hype should be posted or the ones that we go to. We already have a thread for those spamming retards and they don't listen. Another thing your a douchebag.

Posted by charon on Oct-25-2009 22:51:

Why should they not be here? Who decides if they 'deserve' hype and are allowed to be posted? What is the cutoff? The DJmag top 100? (lol) Who assigned you or mcgroin the official dictator of this forum. If it is an edm event, and it takes place in Florida, it should be allowed in here. The scene in Florida is already dead, why do you want suppress information about local EDM events? (Don't tell me they should be posted in the events thread... That is rarely updated and no one looks in there anyways)

^ This. Just because no one replies, doesn't mean people don't see the thread, and go. There are many lurkers. The more people we can get out to local events the better.

And I'm pissy because mcgroin already pulled this shit in a Gainesville thread. (If TA search didn't suck I could find it) He clicked a thread that was clearly labelled "Gainesville, Fl" and bitched about how it shouldn't be here (in the Florida forum..) and we were wasting his time... Because someone forced him to click on a link for a city he doesn't live in and type out a response...

PS: Meeko shouldn't be bumping his threads. That is simply bad forum etiquette. However, he has every right to make the thread in the first place.

Posted by riotgear on Oct-25-2009 22:54:

i'd rather get 10 flyers on my car when i go out

i miss the days of 1998-2003 or so where badass parties were everywhere and people actually collected the flyers.

wow dude. your vagina needs a hug. i dont even remember whatever bullshit you're talking about. cant believe you do. so thanks for the lolz!

fact is theres a big difference between people who contribute to the forum and those who dont. the ones that dont only further downgrade the quality of this forum and thats the issue im addressing (in a polite way until you showed up, so please stop trying to derail the point of this thread). because the quality is being downgraded maybe thats why we dont have more people post here. just maybe. think about it. its a downward spiral.

some people are making good points, and thats why i made this thread to hear some of those. like the comment ben made about the "shitty" threads working their way down to the bottom. its a very valid point, but to discuss this further, when theres always an influx of these threads, they will always be there. so yea, they do go down, but as soon as ones of the second page, it either gets bumped or a new thread is created, so thats not really solving the problem, or its still a problem.

and people DO use the events thread, all the time. it gets updated more than any other part of this forum (thanks to ben). so you're totally wrong there. just goes to show the lack of knowledge you possess about this forum and in a way that invalidates your entire opinion.

fact still remains, theres way more local forums where these kinds of events are promoted and honestly i think that shit should be kept there. i dont want to be just another promotion forum, cuz those forums all suck ass. if MORE people showed interest in these kinds of events then it wouldnt be an issue, but theses ZERO activity whatsoever. we have a thread for events and its not hard to use. people have been told and repeatedly they have simply refused to use this forum correctly. and i could care less about lurkers. i care about the people that contribute to this forum. forums are for discussions, not so that people can make money off of someone else paying for server space and bandwidth.

manny... just an fyi... im just trying to have a discussion here. not trying to turn this into anything. not saying anything has to be done. just voicing my opinion and seeing how others feel. see my previous posts as evidence.

While I do understand your point... No one on TA is allowed to use this site as advertisement.

No matter what section it is. His postings are a bit out of line and need to be controlled. We have an events thread that the lurkers can look at. Plus, it's a sticky so it isn't hard to find.

Coming in here to ONLY post your parties is events thread material.
