How many people use primarily more then 1 DAW for mixing?
I am very curious in terms of mixing and building a track *not mastering* one, how many people use 2 or more DAWs? I'm curious if its a lot of people or if most just use 1 and whether or not you see that as people limiting themselves.
Thanks!
Sometimes, I'll use Ableton Live rewired into Logic for audio editing source samples because editing audio is easier in Ableton than it is in Logic 8. Other than that, I just use Logic alone.
Primary is Ableton
but i use FL Studio and Reason too.
you bought 3 daws?
I start in Live, finish in Cubase.
so far ive been making all my tracks in Reason, but lately bought Logic Express and Ableton Live 7 LE and try to learn those. And will probably start rewiring when i have money to upgrade to Logic 9 and Ableton 8. Also bought Record recently and use that instead of Reason now. Much better interface and a little better mixer. Im looking for a good mp3 encoder btw for mac. I used to use lame.dll in Reaper before, now im using Logics bounce variant but not sure if thats as good as lame? I actualy have Reaper installed on this mac too, so i have in total 5 DAWS here all legal. lol no wonder i cant get anything done.
Cubase 5 and Reason 4.
my main DAW is cubase and sometimes I rewire reason for use Thor or a Combinator reason became another "VST synth" for me
One DAW always for me.
I used to use FL for everything but I've recently decided to use it just for making midis. Once I have the midis for all the parts I want, I arrange/mix in Ableton.
I use Sonar for 90% of my work, but I started with Cubase and I stay current on it and use it occasionally. I bought Live 8 recently to use as a scratch pad for new ideas. I also use Project5, which I bought years ago when I was collaborating with others, but Live 8 has pretty much replaced it now. I bought FLS years ago with the intention of using it for programming drums, but never really used it. However, I have been using it lately rewired into Sonar so I can take advantage of Vocodex, but hopefully, IL will release a VST version of Vocodex soon so I won't have to deal with rewire.
I "compose" in Logic but sometimes mix in PTHD does that count as two DAWS?
I turn to PT when there's a lot of messy editing, especially if I'm doing any remix work from live recordings or overdubs.
well if i make a cpu intensive track then i use two versions of the same daw.
witch is a great way to compleat a track that is demanding thoe these days i think ahead and use just enough to write in what i want then start adding the good shit.
i've been using and use/tried all the shit that is available lately, been a fanatic user of cubase since the old days, have had the chance to work, with logic, pt, and digital performer at uni, have tried sonar it was 6 i think at a friends studio, have had the chance to work with a warezed version of reason 3, later on ended up buying ver. 4, now i've been switching between cubase 4 (yeah i'm still on 4 I'll upgrade to 5 perhaps in the next months), live 7, and reason 4, just actually to keep the creativity flowing

same here. i use cubase 4 with reason 4 rewired.
Cubase with Abelton as slave. I started using this setup 2 years ago and could never dream of writing music now without using the both of them.
I use what ever works!
FL, Reason , LIve, Reaper, ProTools, akai mpc, u name it!
I use what ever works and make 4 or 8 bars loops and throw my loops to any DAW i want!

Wow I'm amazed how few people just use one DAW.
Really was expecting that to be the majority.
Def going to start using Reason a lot more with FL. Its such a powerful program and FL makes up for the shitty sequencing imo.

| Originally posted by SDM i exported all the drums and put them into a redrum preset so im all good in reason. dont need rebirth no more, and it doenst work on newer macs anyway. miss the 303 though, but fuck that, it wasnt good enough anyway. |
A DAW refers to the entire machine you do your production on. If you're talking about the arrangement software then it's called a sequencer.
At one point I actually had two DAWs connected using FX Teleport. Once quad core CPUs came out and made it redundant, I decommissioned the second one and now use only one. I've only ever used one sequencer.
