sven väth, dj dag & torsten fenslau - hessentag '93

this is one of my favourite djsets of all time, fenslau throws down an epic mix of clubhits back in '93. the mixing is not good to be honest, aside from the awesome transition from fanatic trance into age of love, but the energy is amazing and the crowd agrees.

edit, i decided to upload the two sets before it since they are also really good.

väth plays some of the big 'underground' tunes with little mixing but does it really well and dj dag's set is bang on and mixed nicely.

Haha, this is a fine piece, mate. Shame the crowd isn't better synched with the music. Was it a big or small event?

Cool, a set when I was 19 years old. I was a big Culture Beat fan back then. Turn Up The Bass (Arcade label)period.

CYB - NOW is a BOMB, heard that many year later very often in a club. Love Outface too by the way.

Will have a listen tomorrow.

The file name suggests this is part 2, would you happen to have part 1 as well?

Posted by montana on Oct-27-2009 12:44:

no, i think the tag is wrong in that manner, however there is two other sets from this by sven väth and dj dag.

i am going to try find that and upload it aswell since it's rather nice. it's dj dag on form playing excellent trance and mixing nicely and sven doing his thing how he used to go about.

sven plays some eye-q tunes and other stuff. the only thing i remember about väth's set is that he used to play curare schneller pfiel smack dab in the middle of the other tunes he was playing. the thing with that is that schneller pfiel is at 170 and the bpm of the tracks he was playing was at 140-150, so he'd trainwreck into it, and wreck out of it.

Posted by RebeL9 on Oct-27-2009 12:53:

This is a great set indeed. What is the exact date of it? Since Torsten died the same year it must have been recorded just a few months before he passed away. A big loss to dance music and really sad that he died so early.

Posted by montana on Oct-27-2009 13:10:

93 07 17

he died four months later.

big loss

Posted by Sand Leaper on Oct-27-2009 14:43:

I always found the contrast between Torsten's matter of fact-quips on the mic and 20 000 germans bellowing along to Mr. Vain to be very amusing.

The first half, while very entertaining, has some rather dodgy euro dancey/ravey tunes that are a bit hard to swallow for me. The trancers in the second half more than make up for it, though.

I have some more of these old HR3-sets that I really should upload at some point. They are simply le oonze oonze tecknoseckz of the highest quality, especially the ones from Sven.

Posted by montana on Oct-27-2009 22:39:

i updated the first post, put up the whole event. and in higher quality, the fenslau set was in 128. this is 192.

enjoy people

Does seem a bit odd doesn't it? Nobody went raving in 1993.

I've found that a lot of those old HR3-sets are very hard to come by.

I wish I could, during the day it's on at work, but at home in the evening it's all off, so I flip a coin. It said "serious" this time.

Just listened the updated set.
The Meltdown really is much faster then I remembered. Still a nice set though.

20Hz and Give It Up always were fantastic, heard them for years in Belgium clubs. They create atmosphere as we can hear.

What do they yell during CYB? Ausziehen? (take off?) Some dancers around?

DJ 70 - Fanatic Trance (1st Mix) heard before, but never knew the name. Nice Age of Love / Cappella combination I guess.

Allthough the mixing is bad, the set of Thorsten is amazing. Surprising to see the mostly German, Belgium, Dutch sound of that time combined in one set jumping for one to the other and back. It shows that the choice of tracks is more important than the mixing or nice built up. Really a pity he died that early, I was a big Culture Beat fan.
I wonder if he also would have liked the DJ Taucher remix of Pay No Mind as much as I do. (click here to listen if you like)

Thanks a lot Montana, I enjoyed it

Indeed it was much faster then I remembered, just checked it at youtube. I think need to check my old xxl2 cd. Think the live sound also fooled me. Thanks for correcting me, fixed it.
