time and time again, in any incident (shooting, mugging, car accident, rape, bar fight), people nearby will probably not help. makes you feel how lonely this overpopulated world is.

Posted by ZeJayMan on Nov-02-2009 17:08:

if there was some sort of incident where someone is getting popped by a gun nearby, excuse me for shitting a brick and then hitting the deck. theres no fucking WAY in a million years unless it was family or friends that i'm even contemplating getting involved. rape or some sort of fight is different.

It's not easy to know what to do when you're dealing with an armed person. Shooting back is hardly ever an option (even if you're carrying a gun), fleeing before you get hit and calling the cops is probably the best thing one could do at the time, and it's very risky to help those injured before the threat is gone.

The argument is quite similar with car accidents: most of the time, you need to call an ambulance and wait patiently before you snap someone's spine, for example, in a frustrated attempt to drag them out of the vehicle.

As for the rest, it depends quite a lot on the context.

+1 billion

Why the fuck would anyone put themselves on the hotseat by trying to mess with a dude with a gun?

unless they were steven fucking seagal. if someone there had some sick akido style moves and bravery, they'd put it to work. it didn't really seem as if he was ready for any trouble from the people around him. i really wish people could just communicate mentally and all pounce on the guy when a crime like this happens, but unfortunately we're all very cowardly, or simply just very protective of our well being

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Nov-02-2009 17:42:

also, these people live in a mafia run town. They said maybe 60 deaths are related to Comorra this year. (iirc from that cnn video)

That would be sick as fuck, I would pay money to see steven seagal kick the shit out of some mobster.

Well duh, nobody wants to die. I bet even if everyone were all able to work together to stop this guy, someone innocent would still get hurt.

Every time I hear this rhetoric it boggles my mind. What are you going to do?! The guy just shot and killed a man in cold blood, in the middle of the day with a lot of witnesses. The Mafia is known to be heartless killers that wont think twice about popping a cap in your ass.

So with that in mind, what should someone do (after the guy is already dead mind you)? Run after the armed man with no weapons of your own and get yourself killed? Or, let's say you actually get the man... you don't think his accomplice is writing your name down on the list of next people to kill?

I would have probably done the same thing... walked the fuck away like I saw nothing, ran home, shit a brick and maybe call the police. Chances are though, I would probably be too afraid of being put on the hit list to call the police and would have kept my damn mouth shut like nothing ever happened. I'd probably be paranoid that I was followed or something and they were keeping tabs on me to ensure that I did in fact keep my mouth shut.

Reality is, even though they are obviously a menace to society and they need to be taken care of, they are also lethally dangerous and it's very scary to put yourself out there in the face of organized crime like that.

i just think the video is an example of how ruthless these guys are.

why do you think he walked in the shop/bar first? so he could pull out the gun from behind the guy? or checking for cops or that?

I'd say both. He was probably scoping out the scene to make sure that nobody could stop him after he made the hit.

I play Mafia Wars on facebook, but the real mafia just freaks me out

oh and i think what the reporter called shocking was not that no one was trying to help the man or to catch the killer, but that everybody was calm and kept minding their own bussiness. of course i'd do the same if i was living there
thank god i'm not living somewhere in Scampia or San Luca
