REVIEW: Basement Jaxx

I will write a proper one in the morning... as for now a little sample...

BUT I REALLY WISH THEY WOULD HAVE PLAYED:

I am so happy they played Rendez-Vu.

I thought it might be a long shot to hear it on Saturday.

Can't wait to hear your review.

Alright...

so i got there at 1030, already a line up but managed to get myself in. The crowd inside was ready to party and you could tell that most were not the regular Tuesday crowd. People were already dancing and having a good time. There was kind of an old school vibe for a bit.

Unfortunately this didnt last because the regulars arrived around midnight. The bottle service/look at me crowd was in full effect and half didnt even know what was going on. I heard comments such as "what the hell is this music??" LOL!!!

So yeah Century crowds suck, nothing new there!! hahaha

Basement Jaxx was amazing... they opened up with somewhere over the rainbow and things just went nutty from there. Lots of old school mixed in with fresh tunes. I really like how they brought in "this is acid". And the effects/sampler they were using was great. Didnt get close enough to see what they were using but it definitely added the Basement Jaxx touch to a lot of tracks. It could have even just been the CDJ effects for all i know!

I was into it right until they started playing dubstep. First, im not into dubstep. Second, the douche crowd regulars all thought it was hip hop and started doing their crunk dance. That was at 130 when i decided it was time to leave! LOL

So all in all,

Basement Jaxx 8/10
Club 6/10 (revised) the staff was decent even though the crowd wasnt... they lose marks for having bottle service booths take up half the club though.
Crowd 3.5/10 (since a third of them were actually there for the music)

Cant believe its been 10 years since i saw them at industry!!

Basement Jaxx need to come back on a friday perhaps to footwork or somewhere less douchey.

Totally agree, the vibe changed as soon as the bottle service crowd got there, but compared to Hamilton crowds the crowd at Century Room was waaaay less douchey.

I had a great time I left when they were playing do your thing, hearing Rendez Vu was awesome, too bad they didn't bust out Red Alert, oh well. Also, I didn't really mind the Dubstep, kind of fit the mood.

Oh Vronny if only you were around in 2000...

This track was a greeting time staple...

You know the time everyone shows up and talks about their week and gets ready for the rest of the night...

Along with this one...

First time i ever heard that marley remix was when Basement Jaxx dropped it at industry in 1999. The place went mental!

It was the most talked about track of the night. I went out and bought the 12" as soon as it came out.

Hey!!! When we have electronic shows, we get a good, up-for-it, party crowd. We've had good jams at Sizzle & O Lounge...the top40 nights are another story.
