Dragon Age: Origins
Really, really smooth game so far. Seems right in between NWN2 and Diablo 2 so far as character depth/party tactics goes, and the UI/animations are about as smooth as World of Warcraft's (that's a good thing).
The story is sort of run-of-the-mill thusfar, but a lot of the dialogue/"moral" choices are really interesting. The writing is every bit as great as KOTOR's if you ask me.
The whole origins thing is interesting though - each class/race combination seems to have a different background story and likely plot development, though I am sure there are common story elements all throughout the game (there has to be!). Means I am tempted to play the game through as each class/race combination just to get all their stories. And then there's the fact that you can be good, evil, or indifferent - and this has its plot consequences at every turn it seems. I like it.
Bottom line is I think it's obvious Bioware put a lot of work into this - the extent of the lore and writing I have seen so far is every bit as elaborate as D&D's, if not the obvious derivative of it. But what isn't anymore?
I paid $65 for the CE and after just a few hours of playing it yesterday I feel like I've gotten my money's worth. In short, if you liked the game design for the KOTOR games and are a fan of bloody/dark fantasy swords and wizards bullshit, you'll probably like this one a lot.
obviously gonna pick this up at some stage, but have just started playing Risen and not sure if i want to try and finish it first. hmmmm, decisions decisions.
I'm picking up the PS3 version tomorrow. Can't Wait!

The game is fan-fucking-tastic. I'll post more once I can actually drag myself away from it for long enough to make a post that will do it justice.
Suffice to say, go and buy it if you haven't already and clear your schedule....for the next month!
yeah, id have to agree fledz. Risen is a great game and all, but im glad i put it aside for this. there's a pretty big difference between piranha bites and bioware.
totally hooked. so close to calling in sick today so i could stay home and play.
only criticism is the camera control (wish it was more like demigod) and the fact that i can't manage to change the font (yet). playing on a tv and i have to hunch forward to read all the books etc. but, IM READING ALL THE BOOKS, which i fucking never do in an RPG, but i love this world so i feel like getting right into it
only stopped playing last night because my eyes had started to have trouble focusing i was that tired.
am enjoying playing in a world that isn't Krynn or Faerun etc. bioware have really let themselves loose in the creativity department to create their own world.
fuck i can't believe i have to work all day
Picked up the CE PS3 version and I'm very pleased. It looks great and so far navigating through menus is np at all.
Yea but you get XP by opening stuff.
Anyway, the Stone Prisoner DLC is fluffing amazing. Read on:
SPOILERS!!!
1. Shale - The guy is legendary. I didn't expect to have such a likeable character that is even more of a smartarse than Alistair. Plus, he's an absolute beast not just through his stats but his skills/talents. The party support with this guy is spectacular. He won't be leaving my side any time soon.
His bird hate is a crack up too.
2. Harvest Festival Ring:
+2 Strength
+2 Dexterity
+4 Attack
3. Helm Of Honnleath:
+2 to all attributes
+3 Armor
...
PLUS TWO TO ALL ATTRIBUTES!!!!!
Suffice to say I'm now an absolute beast of a character.
Quite an enjoyable little quest. If I didn't get it for free, I would say it's definitely worth the purchase. I love the design of the village too.
really great game, when i get a chance to get away from playing, will put in my 2 cents as well.
Mages Circle ie The Fade is

I bought the last DLC which didn't come with the CE...Warden's Keep and ran through it last night. Was worth the extra few bucks. Really Enjoying this game immensely.
has anyone hooked up with Morrigan yet, lol? Currently on the unleashing Shale quest.
racked up 26hrs since thursday. i am uber nerd!

| Originally posted by paulandrews Haha, shame my character is a woman, I'd probably do her too. The moment when I offered sex to a dwarf to make him defend a village (Redcliffe?) was priceless, though. What pisses me off, though, is that the game doesn't reward slaying some of the huge monsters as much as I would like to. I coincidentally summoned a big fucking Revenant in the mage tower, spent 5 minutes fighting it, and all I got from his body was leather shoes and a common shield or something like that. Meh. |
i thought the shale quest was WAY too short for a 500mb download. glad i didnt have to pay for it :/
i hope their other DLC turns out to be more rewarding.

With a great sadness in my heart i will boycot the old republic (i really enjoyed both KOTOR games, they are some of my favs by far) since i dont play any MMORPGs and im not willing to start even for Star Wars.
To get back on topic, im supposed to get this in the mail tomorrow. Since im sick ill have at least until monday to play it (since ive already beaten Borderlands, very enjoyable but much, much too short)

One thing I will miss about Eve is the territorial combat and 100% influence on the game world. No shards, all the same world with the players driving 100% of the content and the devs fully supporting the sandbox model. No other MMO has ever come close to achieving what Eve has in that sense.
Sadly enough I will also miss camping gates for hours on end and despite not getting into any fights for hours, just talking shit with others on Vent/TS was awesome.
