Lira Appreciation Thread

I just have to say, I luv Lira He is one of the only TA posters who isn't a douche**** 98% of the time, has intelligent things to say, and is often quite hilarious.

Yay for Lira!

Appreciate!

Thumbs up

im telling you all jan people are awesome!

I personally prefer people who aren't afraid to be cunts. I have a hard time believing that everyone who acts nice actually is nice. I think the amount of genuinely nice, kind, humble people far less than the number that presents themselves to be. I think the majority are just insecure yes men who don't want to give people a reason to not like them/need approval from others.

Not saying Lira is one of those people...that's just what your post stimulated in my mind.

I mean, of COURSE people prefer/appreciates people who don't ruffle their feathers, lol. It's like ego padding in a way.

I think "yes men" these days are more likely to try and be "cunts," since that's the popular thing to do. It hardly takes any fearlessness to follow an obvious behavioral trend.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-05-2009 19:30:

Uh, I guess. But that's not how I see yes men at all. You're just talking about followers, and yes - the world is full of them.

Listen Jenny.

Just STFU, ok?

Put some tape around your damn fingers and stop typing.

Ya dumb bitch.

On the Internet, maybe. In real life people are still pretty pathetic, I find.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Nov-05-2009 19:36:

True.

The Internet is my life, so that is always my point of reference for cultural trends.

I like lira, but i have to admit i enjoy interacting with him more outside of TA. He is a very intelligent young man albeit not quite a cunt smasher.

Posted by RandomGirl on Nov-05-2009 20:11:

LOL! Leave it to TA to ruin a thread with nice intentions.

Anyway, I'm not sure I agree with you Jenny. Sure, I have my moments of bitchiness, but for the most part, I either 1. can't be bothered to care enough, or 2. don't feel the need to be an asshole for no good reason. If it's a matter of standing up for myself to the little hoebags who butt in front of me in the Tim Hortons line, then yea, my inner-bitch emerges, but otherwise, why bother?
There is already a whole lot of shittiness going on, why add to it? It doesn't usually make you feel any better - or at least it doesn't make me feel any better.

I get a lot more enjoyment out of being nice and making people feel good. Maybe this sounds lame or whatever, but when I do something nice for someone and their face lights up with a smile and you can tell you made their day a little better, it makes me happy. So... I choose to be nice, even when people are dicks.

I am not going to lie, I like it when people like me. With that being said, I also couldn't care less when people hate me. Most of the time if they truly hate me, it's because I did something to warrant it (at least from their opinion), or they are just douche****s who want to hate me for funsies. Either way, chances are I don't want to be friends with them anyway.

I think it takes more strength to be nice in the face of all the ugliness out there than it is to just join the crowd and be another curmudgeonly grump.
It also takes a lot more bravery IMO to defend the little guy instead of jumping on the bandwagon and hating on someone so as to avoid being the next person who gets hated on.

Being nice doesn't mean you have to be walked all over, and it doesn't mean you have to be a yes-man. You can still be nice and pleasant and have a backbone.

As for appreciating people who don't ruffle their feathers... I think people just appreciate others who are positive and make them feel good. No one likes to be around a negative asshole who makes them feel shitty.

turkish or italian?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-05-2009 20:15:

Of course, and I agree with all that as well. I just prefer people who act naturally, and I don't believe that kindness and niceness comes to everyone naturally. I'm not saying I think people should go out of their way to be assholes at all.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Nov-05-2009 20:16:

i'm having an interracial relationship with a french canadian girl.

Are you referring to the nicey-nice people who are always smiling and have a high-pitched voice and you almost wonder if they shit fairy dust and candy canes?

If yes, then I agree... people who are too nice seem to be trying too hard and it doesn't always come across as genuine, but rather, almost condescending.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-05-2009 20:22:

Yes exactly.

There....that should fix it.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-05-2009 20:44:

Theresa, I should apologize to you, too. I have definitely been unnecessarily cunty to you...and I don't actually NOT like you as I've said a few months ago. As I told Ania, I got carried away and I guess was just so far into it/stubborn to bother going back.

So yeah, please accept my apology.
