my guilty pleasure

I am a self professed minimal house head. I usually hang out on the beatport forums but decided to check things out over here at TA for awhile. I like dark clubs with people dancing with each other as opposed to all facing the DJ booth and worshipping the DJ. I have seen pretty much the entire top DJs from the last 10 years play and seeing the Armin, Tiesto fanboys/fangirls are the biggest joke to clubbing. These are most uneducated music fans in EDM.

That being said, I have a guilty pleasure. Markus Schulz trance is freakin sick. That goofy dude has layed down some really sick sets and tracks the last 2 years.

Anyone else have a "trance" guilty pleasure?

A & B for me too. Or any older progressive trance.

Not really, but I'll still check out a trance event every few months. Simon Patterson next week most likely.

Yes, I occasionally check in on trance every now and then...sometimes I hear decent stuff, often times not. I would say my main guilty pleasure though is "plink-plonk" minimal.

hard trance is a guilty pleasure for me as well.
dont listen to it at all really anymore but it still holds a place in my heart

its called tranceaddict for a reason. most people here should atleast at some point had a thing for trance.

EDM used to be my guilty pleasure

BUT, I soon realized that if I didn't feel comfortable saying that I liked it then I didn't really like it. Sure, I get shit when I play trance and I'm called a fag when I play house but I've learned to shrug it off. I love happy hardcore and I wear my kandi with pride even though a lot of people hate it (especially here lol).

long story short: stop feeling guilty about your guilty pleasure.

Nothing guilty. If it's guilty then you don't really like it.

Not necessarily. There's always music that goes against everything you like about music and represents everything you usually hate, but for no rational reason you enjoy it anyway. You feel guilty because you should hate it.

Posted by Seppuku on Nov-08-2009 04:46:

Also, I think hearing other people constantly ragging on stuff can play a role in one feeling "guilty" about certain things they listen to. Not to say one should let this affect what they enjoy.

Posted by Lews on Nov-08-2009 05:01:

I think that's probably the biggest one. Everyone saying how horrible things are makes you feel bad about liking something.

i still listen to Gabriel & Dresden - Arcadia

And why exactly do you feel guilty about that? That track is better than 99% of dance music released these days.

I think I'll give that one a listen now.

Josh Gabriel made some neat sounds in that Bloom era, IMO. Who knows whether Dave did much of anything.

My favorite from that era was probably "Here Is The House"

Hehe yeah! that's a really good housetrack at the time

The first two "trance" tracks I heard, back when I knew nothing about electronic music, were As The Rush Comes and Without You Near. I'll always have a really lame soft spot for those two guilty pleasures, I still remember jamming out to some G & D set where they played both of them back when I was driving home from touring a university in south Georgia.

I didn't even understand what a DJ set was back then.

britney spears - womanizer

i used to bump that in my car late at night when no one was around

The rare times I actually find tech/minimal house enjoyable, like the Jamie Jones EM.

I was just messing around, it's kind of a running joke on here.
