FM7 patch thread (should work for FM8 as well)

I feel like making some FM7 patches again. You should be able to load them into FM8 as well. Post your own if you feel like it.

This one sounds kinda cool I think:

I suppose. Not guaranteeing I'll be able to make them all.

I have an old free bank of 98 presets here: http://xenossoundworks.com/5.html

There's free small banks for Sylenth, Fabfilter One and Synth1 on that page as well.

Wish I could just dick around and make good patches

Cool stuff. Love the "whoosh" sound.

Does anybody know if there is a way to create/save FM8 patches for FM7 compatibility? I know I can import FM7 patches > FM8, but I'm not sure if any of my FM8 patches will be usable with FM7.

I have some more nice patches going tonight. I figure I'll wait until I make ten and upload them all at once.

I have no idea, I've only used FM8 once.

Here's a simple and nasty bass sound that I made in FM8. Looking at the file extension, it looks like FM8 uses .ksd, so I doubt that FM7 will be able to load it. Anyway, it's got some 'wah' routed to the mod wheel that you can hear in the second half.

Nice, wish I could use it.

I don't think I'll make it to ten tonight. Here's what I've gotten so far, six sounds:

http://jbj.raceriv.com/sounds/FMLab.mp3

Here's the patch file, it's a full bank file rather than an individual patch, and includes the sounds posted earlier. I'll probably just keep overwriting this file until it has all 128 patch spaces filled, or until I run out of ideas:

Hope you enjoy them.

I made a decent-sounding pad (I think)

Nice! Wish I could load FM8 patches.

Posted by ReclusNdangrmnt on Nov-12-2009 05:01:

Yeah, there has to be a way to convert 'em.

EDIT: Hey JBJ, think you can make a patch similar to the one used in this track? It's the synth stab (Not the pad) that comes in at :30.

Awesome Jingles......and here come the requests !!!!!!! (I'm a terrible sound designer...you know this by now...!) Just some ideas for your bank if you needing some and don't mind taking requests. (I know this is an FM7 thread, but if you need to do these in imPOScar just throw them on the bank you're making me if you feel like it) Thanks so much in advance.

I don't understand why you're asking me to emulate these when you will have much better luck getting these sounds by finding the right samples. I mean, it's interesting as an exercise, but if I really want something that sounds like a real instrument then I find samples of the real thing.

These all sound very cool - you definitely know your way around FM! OT, do you have, or are you considering, getting in on the Alchemy group buy? I'd love to hear what you could do with that synth.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Nov-12-2009 16:20:

Nah, I have quite enough VSTs right now, and a new hardware synth coming in the mail today.
