Need info on best Ski restort/lodging around NYC

I will be in NYC soon & am lookin for skiing/snowboarding options...
I dont want to be too far from NYC but Ive heard Penn & upstate NY might be some good options? Does anyone know the BEST ski lodge around the area? Or have experience with one that I can consider?
Thanks a lot guys!!!!!!

Mountain Creek in NJ I would say would be the best choice. Maybe 2 hour drive. What time of year are you going? Most are not making snow yet, and unless you go to Vermont nothing will be open until the temps drop

1 - there is no "BEST" in the North East. You want BEST go WEST!
2 - local rides are MT Creek, Poconos, Windham, Hunter, everything else is north 3+ hrs.
3 - look at the thread above

gore mountain, but its 3.5 hours away

its infinitely better than any of the more local mountains.

Up in the Poconos we have Camelback and Shawnee, personally i like Camelback alot. Its a pretty decent Mountain.

SLOPES ftw!!!!

Im sure some of you know what im talking about...

best mtn imo would be Mt Snow in southern Vermont. About 3.5 hours away from nyc

Killington is def worth the 4.5- 5 hour drive. Got my season pass and will be riding what ever is open this weekend and pretty much every weekend till march!

Went to killington this past sat & sun. It rained like hell on sat and was 60 on sun. Between the two it was ripped the F up by the end of the day sunday. Either way riding is riding and we had a blast even soaking wet! LOL

the best reaction i ever saw happened out in PA, on a moderate blue course that wasn't groomed (bumpy). a guy skis right into them fast and then he yells, "OH SHIT WHO PUT THESE HERE?" and he flies about 20 feet forward, with a garage sale right behind him.

Awesome guys thanks! I think I will go with Windham...looks alright, unless you guys think there's better..all opinions welcome ...I hope the snow is quality by mid December? Won't be like the Austrian Alps, but if all goes as planned it should be alright!

Never been to the Austrian Alps but I doubt it's like this. Get ready for some ice! Thats how we do in the North East!

I went to killington this weekend. They still only had 16 trails open and all the landings in the park were straight ice. Super sketchy! Still the best conditions of the year thus far. They got 4 or 5 inches on sat.

I'm doing a SLC trip in February if anyone is interested. Below is the info - my friend is running a ski-school course in Brighton SLC. I'm looking to join in on the lodging, flight and car rental would be handled on your own, but the room rate and lift is probably one of the best prices you'll find out there for ski-in/out.

Love me some SALT LAKE POW what's good riders?

quote:

The Brighton Lodge is a cozy, slope side, 20 room Lodge.
Included is a continental in your stay is a continental breakfast (cereal, bagels, Danish, juices, coffee, cider, tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal).
-Most of the rooms have one queen size bed
-Only one room has 2 twin beds (priced the same as a room w/ one queen bed)
-There is one suite which has rooms w/ 2 queens and 1 dbl. Futon
-There are 5 dorm style rooms (your own private room, shared bathrooms) consisting of bunk beds (4 rooms sleep 4 and 1 room sleeps 2
We have a common TV room (VCR only) an outdoor hottub, lobby area with a circular fireplace.
They also have night skiing from 4pm to 9pm lift tickets can be upgraded for an additional $10

The hotel offers a 4 night lodging and 4 day skiing package that we will be using for part of our stay.
Additional days can be added to the package with or without lift tickets at brighton).

The totals below are the room prices:

Rates per room (EXCLUDING tax):
4 nights lodging and 4 days skiing

-2 people in a queen = $860 ($430 per person)
additional day including lift tickets= $200 ($100 per
person)

additional day including lift ticket= $300 ($100 per
person)

-4 people in a suite = $1320 ($330 per person)
additional day including lift ticket= $360 ($90
per person)

-1 person in a dorm = $553
additional day including lift ticket= $143
additional day without lift ticket = $111 **** this
is the cost of the room

-2 people in a dorm = $785 ($393 per person)
additional day including lift ticket= $194 ($97per person)

-3 people in a dorm = $900 ($300 per person)
additional day including lift ticket= $246 ($82 per person)

-4 people in a dorm = $1040 ($260 per person)
additional day including lift ticket= $320 ($80 per person)

dorm rooms do not have their own bathroom- there are separate mens and womens bathrooms
all rooms except dorm rooms have a fridge and microwave, there is a kitchenette area for the dorms, w/ a fridge.

It is possible to add a foldable cot to all the rooms except the 4 person dorm rooms, the cost is $10 per night however lift tickets must be purchased separately- $58/day
** the rooms are small, the addition of a cot will make things tight**

You will take me at least once this winter, right? My skis aren't used nearly as much as they should be.
