Chrome OS due out in one week? (Will you switch?)

Well, what do we have here? The Washington Post is reporting it has reliable intel indicating that Google�s much hyped Chrome OS will be released for download within the next 7 days. Ba-zing. The piece is a little light on fact and high on speculation about the unveiling, and we encourage you guys continue with the speculation in the comments. Would a Chrome OS powered netbook motivate any of you to jump in the market? Or is the thought of a cloud-centric OS a little to much to swallow right now?

I'll wait till all the first-on guinea pigs report in. How much can we trust Google to provide a SECURE platform?

I'll definitely try it out. No harm in having 3 different OS's on my PC.

This is going to be just a google branded linux, so I'm not so sure I will try it. Debian and Ubuntu already have so much support, it seems a bit redundant for the hobbiest to use it.

I think it will be another good OS for mainstreamers, when it comes bundled with a netbook, because they won't know it's linux, just that it is google branded.

Is this an updated version of google chrome, or the first? I ask because I have been using Google Chrome on my computer for months now?

hehe yes I know, I was simply asking because I was thrown of by the first post saying that it was just now coming out (when I have been using it for some time now...)

It'll be an interesting platform but doubtfull in competition with world giant Microsoft.

Correct

support will be the main issue. I like using the google chrome web browser as its very fast, but it gets fustrating all the times I run into issues where there is no support for chrome and have to pop up firefox or explorer

I wouldn't trust any OS made as a "side-project".

It's funny how everyone keeps bashing Microsoft all the time when here you have a perfect example of a monopoly creeping around.

I'm happy using Gmail and other web apps. I'm not going to let my offline experience be a google one as well.

LOL I am *always* confused when it comes to computers. My knowledge of them is "enter website address, hit enter...." (lol ok ok not THAT bad, but you get the picture!)

I always hesitate coming into these threads, but my opinion is: I have used google chrome for some time now and its super fast and better than previous systems I have used. Thats about as far as I can go in this convo.

If you say you don't know much about computers, I highly doubt you would have been chosen to test out the Chrome OS in beta before its release.

About the OS, I have to admit I'm pretty curious to check it out and see how it works.
Google is on a mission for world domination, the hardest part for the competition is that they usually release their products for FREE & an open source platform.

Chrome OS is just chrome on a netbook. So no filesystem management or anything like that. Either you have internet and you can stream your music or whatever, or oyu don't have internet and you can't do anything at all.
