[Proggy/Techy Trance?] Immersiv & Kysora - Fall to Ashes (Immersiv Mix)

Hey guys, would love some feedback on this as its a bit of experimentation for me - Fellow TA Cody (Kysora) sent through these chords for us to collaborate on and after working with them a bit they seemed to lend themselves nicely to a more moody Arnej-style track and I figured it was a great opportunity to try something outside my usual style (genre-nazis feel free to step in and help classify! haha) I rendered it pretty quiet so you'll have to crank it somewhat.

Sadly Cody lost weeks of work that he'd done on his version which is always devastating but I'm hoping he'll pick it up again sometime because I'm sure the chords would work well as the uplifting stormer which they were originally intended for!

this sounds sick, may i only suggest a different kick drum, and how the kick is mixed, maybe someone else will agree with me.

perhaps im wrong, take it with a grain of salt. those chords are sexy.

The kick sounds quite drowned. As msz said, a better, more punchy sample would be nice. Your bassline could maybe stand out a little more too.

I like the drums and synthwork! Very nice haunting pads also.

The track progresses very well, but my concern is the mixdown. It doesn't sound too bright to me. Good effort, though! It would definitely be nice to hear more stuff like this.

Keep it up.

Hi novastorm,

Finally after crazy day like today (Monday) I had a chance to listen to your track and I was impress man, you really did a nice job with this one. In the beginning let me tell you that this slow build up in melody line was really good, I enjoyed it (although you could use some more frequencies and make your sound much brighten). As far as this kick, in my opinion, was a great addition to your basic sound oppose to driving it, so for this, I would not change it too much (maybe bringing it a more to the front). Bass, I would agree with msz and Owen to make it stand out a little more and tighten it a bit also. So overall I think it was good effort which produce really nice balance track.

Keep them coming man.

God, I wish I didn't lose the work I did on this, I more or less addressed all of the issues in this thread.. made the kick tighter, brought the bass out a bit more, etc

You still did a fantastic job with that progression.

Bugger right! Is there ANY way to get your work back .. make a deal with some demon or something?! Lol.

Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts guys, I enjoyed making something more haunting and I'm glad to hear it wasn't a complete dog. Its funny that usually my tracks come out too bright and that this one isn't bright enough haha but I'm sure I can work with that.

The pads are pretty strong and a bit loud so thats probably what's drowning the kick, although I really wasn't going for a peaktime kick-driven track here -- I really wanted that clicky, almost crappy-sounding kick that Arnej uses so well, supplemented by a strong throbbing sub-bass kick underneath and thick lush pads over the top but looks like I need more practise at fine-tuning it..
