Scooters

who has driven one? are they easy to drive?

we have a brand new one that just sits there and ive been thinking of using it to save $ on gas but of course my bf thinks i will crash it even though i've been driving for over 10 years and have never gotten in an accident and know how to drive a stick shift, etc..

anyway, just wondering if anyone has driven one. i mean it's not a motorcycle, it looks pretty easy to me

drove one when I was like 14... well before driving a car. it's easy. you'll be fine.

Posted by bananas on Nov-17-2009 22:41:

easier than bicycle

Posted by Slylee on Nov-17-2009 22:44:

that's what i figured.

apparantly my bf's ex can drift cars and bla bla bla and drive motorcycles, but she crashed the scooter. i was like, "so wtf does that have to do with me" lol

doesn't want you riding a scooter... geez. do you have to call every 5 minutes to let him know where you are "or else" too?

Posted by Slylee on Nov-17-2009 22:51:

no it's not like that. he says he would be worried about me a lot if i was driving the scooter every day. i guess it's just the whole situation with his ex and how she was a great driver but still crashed the scooter AND a motorcycle. i told him obviously she's not THAT good lol

i learned how to drive a stick when i was 15 and drove automatic when i was 13. i'm sure i'll be fine on the scooter.

haha i know, i was just playin.... you make a good point though; how good of a scooter/motorcycle driver could she really have been if she crashed them both? lol. driving stick is definitely more of a challenge.

Posted by bananas on Nov-17-2009 22:57:

the dangerous thing about scooters and motorcycles are other drivers. it's much safer to be in a car if some asshole tries to pull a stupid manoeuvre and crashes into you
quite reasonable if he's worried bout that

Posted by Slylee on Nov-17-2009 22:59:

yea he just likes to act like driving is SOOOO hard and he's being macho.

i tried to change my spark plugs earlier and he insisted on doing it. lol i used to have to change my spark plugs ALL the time on an old bmw i had when i was 19. i can do that shit with my eyes closed.

well, not really but i can get it done.

fuckin macho jerk. i'm so annoyed with him right now lol

i was planning on taking all the back roads every day. but yea i know what you mean and i agree completely. south florida has some of the worst drivers on the planet.

Posted by Slylee on Nov-17-2009 23:02:

fuck it i'm just going to take that scooter around the block or something and give it a shot when he's not home. i have no doubt that i'll be fine. then i'll just casually rub it in his face

"oh yea the scooter? yea i took it today...it was nothing".

Posted by Sushipunk on Nov-17-2009 23:16:

I know a guy who's now paraplegic, because he was riding a scooter and got hit by an SUV that just didn't see him...

...just sayin'

Sorry

They're easy as hell to ride, I doubt you'd have any problems at all there. It's just like someone said earlier though - There's absolutely no protection for you if something hits you, and frankly, they are harder to see on the road than a normal vehicle so your chances of being hit may increase just from that.

Personally, I wouldn't be taking that risk just to save a couple of bucks on fuel every week.

I know how to drive stick, it just smells really bad.

(in the ass?)

I wish they would bring that requirement back. Although, if you take your test in a manual, you can't stall. If you do, you fail.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Nov-17-2009 23:33:

So just take it over the next day. hahaha, America.

why do you have to be so pompitous, why can't you just say 'thank god my father asked me to learn how to drive manual'? No. You have to say 'extremely intelligent father', as if intelligence is even defined by that, but that's not the point. I just askin why do you have to highlight such things in almost every post of yours? I'm sure you might find the answer in one of your psychology books
or is it just me?
