Has anyone played with live percussion?
Got a gig in 2 weeks, and gonna be playing with a guy playing live percussion (bongos & congos). He's played at clubs in Chicago and San Fransisco, and I'm quite intrigued to see how this'll turn out.
In terms of the tracks I might play, I'm thinking along the lines of 'Jesus Balza - El Diamante (Reix mix)' and music by Harry Romero, Miguel Migs etc, but any other track recommendations that would sit well along side live percussion would be hugely appreciated...
Thanks
I actually had someone playing live percussion last night at one of my gigs. It turned out to be amazing!!! Shit load of people asked me if we were doing it again soon.
I would play the entire Cadenza catalog just to dick with him.
ouuf, it is fun for a track or 2, but generally stuff like this gets annoying to me very fast. A lot of times it isn't really in harmony and about who can upstage who.
you could try playing more ambient and music with no percussion or kick .
It would probably work better than just a clusterfuck of drums from all sides.
I agree with what Schadenfreude said, both of his posts.
i play with a live sax on occasion, tends to go over really well, it isn't about who can upstage who, it's about 2 guys jamming out some wicked tunes

| Originally posted by Schadenfreude I could be wrong, but what i got from the OP is that he has never played with this guy before. Imagine doing a tag with someone that you have no clue what kind of music is in their bag. It can be dangerous, and that is all i am saying. It can work if people know what to do a bit more beforehand imo. |
