Question Van or van?

This question has been on my mind for a few years now (thread title should attract PvD and Armin fans )...I just never got around to asking it LoL.

What is the proper way to type "van" as in Paul van Dyk or Armin van Buuren? Is the van supposed to be capitalized or lower case? Cause I know I always see PvD but rarely PVD...then when his full name is spelled out I see it both ways, same goes for Armin. So what is the correct way? I always keep it lowercase...

Ilina

Ok, good that's what I thought *wipes sweat from forehead*. Now I don't have to edit all my MP3 tags.

Thanks fellow PvD worshippers

Starfox, or anyone else that knows

How do you pronounce his last name is it pronounced Dike or Dook ?

Posted by Technaut on Jul-06-2002 15:02:

Dook

I think, thats the way the Germs say it

thats what i thought.(we need some germans on this one )

Posted by starglider on Jul-06-2002 15:22:

Also, the lowercase rule goes for "de" as well, eg, Vincent de Moor, Benno de Goeij. Not that you necessarily wanted to know.

You're all forgetting one thing:

If you want to adress some-one with mister .... (like in a letter or e-mail)

it becomes mr. Van Buuren.

Greetz.

Big deal (maybe it is), I always write Paul Van Dyk, Mirco De Govia etc

It is to me, I like to have things done correctly. Besides...at least it's not another vocal thread or "What's a good AG alternative" thread

van vs. Van is an easy question, it's van. (lowercase)

The REAL tricky one is del vs. Del.

Del is de and el combined in spanish, de and el both being lowercase.
Therefore you would think del would be lowercase as well.

But Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar is capitalized on Discogs and other sources....

so which one is the proper way?

Posted by grafal on Jul-06-2002 23:44:

van 100% sure on this one

Posted by BloodfIower on Jul-07-2002 02:45:
