I like it, too bad it's probably ridiculously expensive.

Old news. Me and my co-editor did a news article about this back in May. Yea... we went there lol

HAWTIN WANTS US TO DRESS RICHLY

Article: News (2009-05-21)

(Berlin, DE) - In 2008, German DJ/Producer and M_nus label owner Richie Hawtin met up with Isolde Richly while traveling in Tokyo. The two decided to collaborate on a business venture and this is when the Richly.Hawtin Fashion label was established. The result: overpriced quasi-futuristic threads that is marketed in the same pretentious way as Hawtin's lame Cube thingy.

The press release hilariously states the following: "Perhaps now more than ever as music sheds its skin and evaporates into the digital ether, it needs something tangible, something physical to keep hold of". Yeah. Whatever... what a crock of sh*t. We've had a peek at the threads and, well, it doesn't differ much from the casual stuff you can get at your local boutique (except for the retail price of course). The one and only Richly trench-coat is rumoured to cost ya EUR 1700 (!!!) Hm, deja-vu here... oh right, Richie used to sell his own M-nus earrings ("2008 edition", mind you!) for EUR 40 (and as well all know, the M-nus logo is nothing but a bar which you can get for a nickel at your local DIY store and makes you look like a construction worker on crack). Sadly, Mr. Plastikman has engaged in more ridiculous ideas as of late. Apart from that utterly pointless Cube device, Richie has implemented the equally pointless Twitter into his live sets so you can keep track of his thoughts and tracks during his performance. Like we care.

The official release party will be held in Apartment Store in Berlin's Mitte District next week. The first attire up for viewing will be a limited run of 100 T-Shirts with previews of future designs that will be unveiled at the launch. Please Richie, quit fooling around and get yo ass back in the studio!

Lol . You're right that the cube thing was a total BS gimmick. Sometimes I wish they'd stop decorating totally plain, or even slightly below average ideas with colorful language to make it sound like it's something spectacular.

As for the clothes though, they're really no more pretentious or creative than than any of the other stuff by european designers. Maybe even a little less creative / more conservative than some of the stuff out there *shrugs*

Nope not at all I just don't feed into the hipster BS, but the article was writen by 2 people including myself. Use your imagination to see who said what lol

Just browsed through some of the collection...pretty goofy looking stuff imo. Can't imagine wearing any of it.

It is nothing original at all. He completely knocked off early seasons of Y3, Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas and tripled the price for knocking off items. In the fashion world, anyone seeing this would think it is a knock off. It is also similar to some styles for 45 RPM, a Japanese company with a few stores in NY. Check fall09 for Y3 and you'll see the similar concept, it has evolved since it started. It isn't my style except for two sneakers from last year that I got but respect the designer- http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/y-3....asp?country=us

i was expecting skinny jeans and scarfs, but this is not that bad
yet nothing too crazy either

Posted by Chaska on Dec-04-2009 22:43:

I read about this on the ism a looong time ago. Richie is trying to become a brand like Tiesto or something, but he's not succeeding with this bullshit.
TBH, I'd rather pay $1400 for a proper pair of Prada shoes than the hideous hi-tops, and Prada shoes are not even that much.

i'm not sure it has to be original in order to make sales. as far as i'm concerned the brand is breaking even on its first year on the market which isn't bad at all. having said that, i don't think richie designed anything at all, hence the hiring of the designer (richly).

additionally, i've shown this line to a friend of mine that works for Armani and she said the styles aren't that bad, however, there are some items that could be either taken off completely or redesigned.

i truly believe richie hawtin has no genuine interest in dropping his dj'ing career to focus on fashion/clothing, i only think he used his connections to come out with a line...hell, if i had the connections i would too who gives a crap, well, apparently, a lot of people do.

Posted by euphoria on Dec-05-2009 05:56:

The conclusion is...........

overpriced and overhyped

It doesn't have to be original, you're right. I mean more like, they are marketing it as such an avant garde concept and really, it isn't. It's been done and done better. If you look at the first seasons of Y3, there are exact rip offs of the jacket, the woman's long skirt with hoodie, and other things that look completely ripped off. If this were a real design house, they would be ripped to shreds. Look at how Johnny on The Fashion Show was torn apart after he knocked off Maggie Gyllenhaal's leopard Lanvin dress, he destroyed his career and he was a contender to win. There is paying an homage and there is adapting to a style but Richie Hawtin's line knocked off a real designer, then had the chutzpah to charge more! Ha! Also the cube was mentioned, total Matrix ripoff.

Umm, I'm pretty sure that's the point of marketing. Even the JC Pennys commercials claim to have this seasons hottest fashions. LOL

Right but within the fashion industry, it is a bit different. Designers don't claim something that isn't theirs. They don't say I am the first evar to do minimal!1!!1111!!!
