It's a good show, although I'd like to see him survive a night out in Nottingham.

his accent/way of talking really annoys me. can't listen to him/watch him for too long, i end up just imitating his accent and laughing.

He's no Ray Mears that's for sure.

I used to love it, but it just seemed to become a question of getting him to do some of the most ridiculous stunts or eat the most disgusting shit. That's why I prefer the more refined survival techniques of Mears.

I rather do it the normal person way. The regular joe doesn't look like he is stressing too much.

I think both are good. Ray is obviously more refined, but I think the point of bear is that you do what you have to do, and sometimes that means eating gross things, although having had a good laugh reading the local councils food rating system, anyone who eats curry or whatever are more at risk eating out here

Even as someone who eats meat and thinks vegetarianism is a load of cobblers, I don't like how he butchers countless animals for the sheer sake of titillation.

I revel in the mutilation and sacrifice a lamb for every animal he eats raw.

mostly farmers will leave him one of theirs to deal with. It's like the earlier point, the show is meant to show you how to get by in dire straits, and he's hardly going to call a pizza hut or something is he. Think of everyone who goes out hunting for sport before you thing this is bad, one day you might have to kill an animal to survive, for food or safety, most probably they'll be donny women.

Plus that is clearly stated at the start of the show too and whenever the show is referred to in the public.

Aye. I'm afraid that people have to take it for what it is.

Which is why you get comments like this:

Yea we get it, that was discussed back in 07.

Bear Grylls is good , but ray mears makes assembling a shelter with a fire that will last for 5 days in -50 degrees that much more achiveable.

Although Bear taking Will Ferell into the Swedish forest was funny.

I'm talking about the times he'll come across a wild snake and bite its head off live just for the shock value, half the time not even to eat the damn thing.

And this idea that the show educates you on how to survive in the wild is utter bollocks. The number of viewers who are actually going to find themselves in comparable situations in their entire lives will number about twenty out of millions watching, and the amount who will remember what some twat with a fake name said on the TV years back will be practically zero. It's just survival porn for faux-macho wankers.

He's such a knob.. the bullshit is too obvious I can't even suspend my disbelief. I prefer that show Tribe.. the dude doesn't pretend he's there alone without a camera crew and always points out that he is an intruder and he's not experiencing life exactly as a member of the tribe would. Also almost every second episode some tribesmen want to get him high on some nauseating hallucinogenic concoction or get his kit off and wrestle the village strongman or something and he takes it like a champ.

Bruce Parry is a legend.

Funny story about him, My mate met him in DC10 in Ibiza once, he was in there with no shoes on. My mate asked him what his next big adventure was, his reply. "to get out of this place"..

The show he done called "cannibals & crampons" is a great watch as well, climbed one of the most remote mountains in the world, had to trek for weeks thru known cannibal territory in guinea just to get to the mountain. By the time they got to the foot of the mountain him and his mate were an absolute shell of their former selves, lost so much weight, bodies in a total mess - but they still climbed it.
