Weddings make me miserable

I just came back from the wedding of an old friend of mine, and I feel emotionally drained. This is not the first time it happens: I used to think it had something to do with churches and whatnot, but that also happens in non-religious ceremonies (like the one I attended today).

The worst I've ever had was back in 2005: One of my best friends got married in São Paulo, and I was one of the groomsmen. After the ceremony was over, I remember I sat on a bench and spent two hours straight looking at a tree on the top of a mountain, while everyone else was dancing at the party. I remember I felt ridiculously empty, and it was the first time I had ever been to a wedding on my own.

Anyone else get that?

Yeah man, I hate weddings. The only good thing is the open bar, which I always take full advantage of, since otherwise I'd probably go mental.

Are you just introverted and therefore uncomfortable in large groups, especially ones where you don't know many people, or is it just weddings?

I generally dislike weddings just because they're usually all the same, and I can't understand why anyone would spend so much money on such a bad party for what is supposed to be the happiest day of their life. The few that are unique are fun though.

Instead of sitting on that bench why didn't you go dance or socialize with friends or something? if you're gona sit on a bench you might as well leave? i think weddings are nice, religious/nonreligious.. everyone seems to be happy atm.

The only people I know who hate weddings are people who secretly want to find that *one* person and are envious of the people getting married or they really do hate the happiness brought upon by the wedding.

Just weddings (and perhaps religious rituals in general). I can go to a party where I don't know anyone and quickly fit in. Weddings, on the other hand...

It was in a remote place, I couldn't leave without the others, and I just didn't feel like dancing. I tried that today, and even taught my parents how to dance YMCA (), but I still think I'm still feeling down.

Go to 3 or more weddings in the same summer then say that.


I don't care for all the family stories and talking to annoying relatives, having to be all polite and well mannered and shit. Plus dropping a few hundred bucks on gifts every time.


No sorry, but most weddings are shit. Unless they have open bar.

ahahahah maybe I just know some bitter people then. I haven't gone to a lot of weddings but I'm just saying from talking to people in weddings, some are just "meh" the entire time.

i never want to have an extravagant wedding. id like to be engaged for years and then have a simple wedding outside in the spring time, only with my close family/friends.. people that have actually been there for me, not distant relatives & friends from 9 years ago or 'kinda' friends.. that is IF i ever get married of course lol i would probably want to wear an old dress.. like a hand me down.. if not, then id pick a cute spring dress.. i would never spend SO much money on a dress ill wear ONCE in my life

Being IN a wedding is even worse. Stress, stress, stress.


Every time I go to a wedding/am part of a wedding party, it makes me want to have my own wedding less and less.

Brides are almost always psychic vampires, sucking off the energy of the entire building during the most tense moments of the ceremony. It's involuntary of course, but the next few years of her life are going to be spent doing the exact same thing.

Haha, yeah, kids are awesome.

I remember this one time I was feeling really miserable and there were some kids running back and forth. I then decided to see if I could get one of the kids to shout the word "Ice" all night long.

Whenever the kid was near me, I'd say "Hey, kid!", wait for him to look at me, and yell "Ice!!! Spread the word!!!". After five or six tries, I got what I wanted, and the kid spent the whole night screaming and squawking at the adults

You could always gain a lot of weight so nobody wants you to be their bridesmaid... ? Yeah, I didn't think that out before I remembered the many sea creatures I've seen stuffed into floral arrangements and made to parade around the altar.

lol kids are easier to relate to at weddings.. they're just themselves and don't feel the need to get into the "wedding spirit"
