New in Toronto!

Hi everyone!! Im new in the City and apart from saying hellow to everyone I wanted to ask for the not so well known places where you can listen to trance music.

Im from Spain and my first contact with Trance music were the Rank-1-Airwave, Verachocha-Carte Blanche, Destination Sunshhine-Balearic Bill, the gouryellas......

At the moment I like stuff like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBYKj___MaQ (amazing from my point of view from 3:32 onwards) and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0Gcm0Vqx2o

In the more or less two months ive been here ive gone to Circa, Guvernment (wasnt that impressed, i went on a "normal" friday") and the Mod Club, where i really enjoyed the music usptairs. I still havent got used to going home that early and ended up in a place called the Comfort Zone but the people there varied greatly to what i had seen in other clubs.

So, any reccomedantions for the type of music you can hear on the links or the ones mentioned above?!

Hope you all didnthave problems with the snow and rain!

Hi and Welcome

First of all... Never go to Guv on a Friday.... Saturday is their EDM night.
Trance is sort of 'dead' in the city... But there are trance events at Guv and sometimes at Vola... Vola is have a big trance night on the 23rd of Jan.
You should also check out The Gift at the Guvernment on the 19th... its a night of classic house and trance.

Keep your eyes on our event thread to see when DJs are coming to town.

I,m going to be here until sept 2010, completing my studies as a trainee here.

In Spain trance.hardtrance, hardhouse, all died around 2003-2004 as something oriented for the big public and turned into something more underground and more difficult to find. The years that went from 98 to 2003 were absoulteley amazing...

I was in valencia in 2002 and it was one of the best times of my life. I experience the las fallas festival and endless parties.

Interesting. I hope I'll get a chance to meet you.

As far as music, the same has happened in Toronto. 98-03 were the big years and it has died down a lot. But there are still a lot of trance lovers in the city and surrounding area, so you can usually find trance parties, just maybe not every weekend.

Definitely keep an eye on the events thread.

Great festivals those, although personally i prefer the ones from my homecity (Pamplona).

The Valencia region was/is one of the main ones regarding electronic dance music and started in the early 90,s with many discos and the emerging techno and trance (if you could call it that then) culture .

Another one which i know better is the Basque Country region, with famous discos like Txitxarro, Itzela, Play, and with the greatest djing names in the industry coming over.
Of course Ibiza and the Balearic islands are a world apart.

I was so close to ibiza and never made it over... thats one of my goals in life is to experience the island.

This is the nicest "I'm new to Toronto and/or TA" thread I've seen in ages. I'm not a huge trance fan at all but thought I'd post and say....

Welcome!

Hey and welcome!!
If you're looking for trance parties, it's best to keep your eyes peeled for events at the Guvernment or Vola. January 22nd!!!! Ronski Speed and Stoneface and Terminal, it's going to be serious.
You're in luck, there seems to be a lot of trance bookings coming up already for 2010!
Hope to meet you out!

Bienvenidos a Toronto!

suerte!!

To be honest, the fact that no alcohol is served from 2 am onwards was shocking at first, but im adapting to the situation. Now I meet people and start having a drink earlier. In Spain a normal night for me would start at 11:30pm, and end at 6:30am more or less. But I am enjoying it here, the city is great, Canadians are EXTREMELY kind and helpful people and there always lots of things to do in Toronto.

Today is a very cold day, but guess what, there were mens boots on offer at The Bay and took advantage So its just a matter of adapting to the new environment!

Alcohol is also expensive here!!

For the previous posters, great Spanish

Thanks for the national anthem!!! I still remember that day in which we beat Germany!! By the way Ill have to ask you places were I can watch World Cup mathces when it gets closer.

In Spanish in case someone wants to practice:

Gracias por el himno nacional!!! Todava recuerdo el da en que ganamos a Alemania!! Por cierto, tendr que preguntaros por sitios donde poder ver los partidos de la Copa del Mundo a medida que se acerquen las fechas.
