IGLOOFEST (14-15-16 21-22-23 82-29-30 JAN 2010 | Montréal)

NOT A ROLLCALL! Or event listing... Simply a discussion amongst TOTAs about the possible attendance of TOTA's to this year's igloofest in Montreal! As well as discuss the festival with others who may have already attended...

January 14th - Jesse Rose, David Carretta, DJ Mini
January 15th - Popof, Adultnapper, Robert Babicz, Mono-Poly
January 16th - Renaissance Man, LA Riots, Noisia, Living-Stone

January 21st - Mark Farina, Mightykat, Maus
January 22nd - Italoboyz w/ Frederico Marton, Zoo Brazil, Madkids
January 23rd - Guy Gerber, Matt Tolfrey, Roux Soundsystem

January 28th - M.A.N.D.Y. ft. Philipp, Robag Wruhme ex. Wighnomy Bros, Cocktail Club Soundsystem
January 29th - King Cannibal, Rusko, Douster, Ghostbeard
January 30th - Nic Fanciulli, Joris Voorn, Stefny Winter

Who's thinking of going? I would love to hit up all 3 weekends! Popof and Babicz and Jesse Rose weekend #1!!! Farina, Zoo Brazil and Guy Gerber weekend#2!

But I think if I make the trek up to MTL in the bitter cold of January from Windsor, it's gonna have to be for weekend #3 with some MANDY, Robag Whruhme, Rusko, Fanciulli and JORIS VOORN action!

Anyone else thinkign about it?

Anyone been to the previous ones? How cold was it? What should you bring, how to prepare, etc?

Afterparties? Inquiring minds (ME) wants to know!

This is no different than the WMC, DEMF, or Electric Zoo threads that get started months in advance... I dont think its a roll call

But Jill, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Im going for the whole 3 days of the last weekend.
Best lineup.

Its a very good party however its very very cold.

You need to buy Winter -25 plus boots. Dont even try to go
without a major warm jacket and atleast 1 pair of $100-$150 dollar
boots.

My friend lasted 20 minutes without them last year.

Remember its on a frozen port on the Lake so its gets ridiculesly
cold.

the parties on go till about 1am...then there are some afterparties
including probably one that platform will do Sat night.

Re: Re: IGLOOFEST (14-15-16 21-22-23 82-29-30 JAN 2010 | Montréal)

Sounds so much fun, but today was FREEEZING and I didn't even want to go outside to smoke... If I can't handle that, how in the hell am I going to handle this!?

And it looks like I was to go, getting some ACTUAL winter/sking gear would be required and probably become quite expensive...

But sounds so much fun!

Yeah, but a week before is kinda short notice to get information or arrange things in an entirely other city, and two major cities over from me!

my thoughts exactly, but some people swear that with the masses it's not that cold... but whatever, here's some video to check out:

Posted by CODE on Dec-11-2009 22:02:

honestly its a great party...i think everyone should check it out
as nothing else like this exists anywere.

But if you are not prepared. You will leave right away.
Montreal in January is the coldest place ever.

Last year I had to buy boots just to go and wore the biggest Canada goose Jacket and after 1.5 hour dancing I was compleely frozen
and had to leave.

The floor of the party is a slush fest...they even rent snowmachines
to make more snow if it wasnt cold enough lol.

Posted by Cribby on Dec-12-2009 00:37:

If it's been going on for more than a year it must have a pretty good turnout. I think I'll go dressed super eskimo styles.

Fanciulli!!!

Posted by CODE on Dec-12-2009 00:46:

the parties average between 4000-6000 people.
So its very tiny

The fact that it's outside and you're partying in winter jackets is what makes this party. The line-up is awesome, no doubt, but I've gone on nights where I didn't know or didn't like the music and haven't cared a bit because it's one of the coolest experiences ever. Without a doubt every single one of the best parties I've ever been to where Igloofest nights. The fact that its cold and everyone's in jackets pretty much makes everybody party harder just to keep warm, its a crazy crowd. And yes, you can dance in snow suits, its not problem :P

If you get too cold there's an inside area you can go to (where the restrooms and one of the bars are) to keep warm, or huddle up by one of the fires. Though honestly if you come prepared its not an issue. You definitely don't need the highest end winter gear if you'll layer either. I wear a hoodie, winter jacket, tuque, gloves, jeans, pj pants, snow pants and 2 pairs of socks. It sounds like a lot, but it's not uncomfortable and I stay warm enough to get through the night just fine. Beer does have a tendency to turn to slush before you can finish it though.

Posted by psyrel on Dec-12-2009 01:45:

I want to go for the last weekend but I'm allergic to the cold. I'd probably get pneumonia and diiiiiie.

Some friends who went last year reported that the dancefloor didn't have sufficient drainage and some parts ended up being a lake of cold slushy water several inches deep. Now if that's not a thought to freeze you to the bone...!
