I think its difficult to pinpoint, but over a period of 2 years I went form liking "techno music" to wanting to go see DJ shows to becoming truly passionate about EDM.

1) Hearing electronic music (especially Sandstorm) all over Eastern Europe (during a month abroard in January 2001)...I decided "techno" is pretty cool
2) Oakenfold's Essential Mix World Tour - Recorded 9-26-1999 at the Rojan in Shanghai (first intro to the Essential Mix and Pete Tong)...listened to this 10,000 times; made me want to go to Techno Clubs and see DJs live
3) Mixed Live Ferry Corsten at Spundae (Circus) May or June 2003 - went to circus for the first timeabsolutely amazing. So many great tracks, but for me, hearing Holden & Thompson Nothing and especially Punk for the first timeI was locked in. I listened to that album so many times afterwards.

About 4:45 in

Though I dont love trance like I used to, EDM really became one of my passions after that set.

That is a GREAT CD!

Kristie and I were "introduced" at our wedding reception to "Flakes" by Matti Laamanen. (Track 7)

Starting at the breakdown at 3:00 mins into the track we had our wedding party and Parents and right as the break hit at 3:30 into the track, we danced into the reception hall.

No real song, but I can tell you the progression

Step1
New Wave aka Italo Disco (Modern Talking, CC Catch, Bad Boys Blue)

Step2
Freestyle (Stacy Q, Johnny O, Stevie B, Timmy T, Linear etc)

Step3
HighNRG dance music (2 Unlimited, Culture Beat, La Bouche, Real McCoy)

Step4
EuroDance/Vocal Trance (Dj Mystik, Dj Epic)

And the above also can explain why so many Asians (1st/2nd generations & fobs) listen to trance, etc.

I loved Modern Talking! But I really went nuts when Snap! and Black Box came out. Their first albums were my favorites. Snap!'s The Power is my fav dance track of 1990s. Later came Prodigy, Cappella, Felix etc. that I was equally addicted to.

Was into World of Warcraft & was watching a PvP video (a skilled player records himself pwning noobs) when I heard this:

I set out on a quest to find more music like it, & still going strong

Posted by bigperf on Dec-16-2009 01:29:

robert miles children late 90's for sure. led me to download a set of his. Sandstorm started getting played in open format clubs in Santa Barbara as well as ATB's stuff(9pm etc) the acronym led to the finding of other such as PVD(for an angel!), BT, AVB.

Posted by alan on Dec-16-2009 01:35:

im not sure anymore, i did like Depeche Mode in the mid 80's, but these two really stand out from memory.

but I guess in terms of "House", this came out in 1990 and they played in Manila by 1991.

I still have my original cassette tape of this and it came out in early 1991.

Id have to say the "happy 2 be Hardcore" compilations were an early hook, along with DJ Tron, Rob Gee, R.A.W., and Ron D Core acid mixed tapes.

Also, Theeo "Live at one" probably 98 or somewhere around that time.
