Tranceaddict set of the year [2009]

Cast your votes here. Try to limit it to one or two truly exceptional selections and please post a link to the thread.

Also, people who think they've made a good set, feel free to remind us, because even though I have 90% of the sets I've downloaded from here in one folder, others might not. It's hard to remember even the best sets from back in January, at least for me.

My definite winner this year is Matt G. - Progressive-Tribal

This set is amazing. The progression is incredibly smooth. It feels a lot more like a set from a 'professional' DJ than the (still impressive and enjoyable) sets from other TAs. The cohesiveness of the tracks is incredibly strong.

For me, this is often the factor that has differentiated a really upper crust DJ from just a plain good one. The class-leading DJs are able to assemble a mass of tracks which all sound like come from the same producer or label yet still have a significant amount of variation between them to keep things interesting. This set fulfills that criteria, and I haven't been able to say that in a long time. It really reminds me of Hernan Cattaneo's work.

Your mixing is spot on, the flow is utterly flawless and I liked every track to the point that I'm about to log onto beatport and download them all one by one. The real clincher for me was that I don't hear many sets like this anymore, and even when this sound was in vogue it was still rather rare to hear it done authentically. This had so much rhythm and groove, but then again it shouldn't be surprising considering your location.

I feel like I should make a tribal set after listening to this - I am that inspired. However, I already know that I don't have enough tracks of this nature in my collection to attempt such a feat.

That does look pretty cool, albeit using Chris Micali as a crutch well hard.

Great idea for a thread

This is going to take some serious thinking though, and I'm off for a week to non-internet-land on the 23rd.

Nothing to really explain...

Can you please post set and DJ names for clarity? Cheers.

I'll give you a 'maybe' on that one. Fraser Island weather can be a bit random, to be fair.

Edit: How long do we have on this? Until new year? Make a cut-off date.

There doesn't really need to be a cut-off date. I suppose the word "vote" was misleading. I just intend this more as a recommendations thread. It would be impossible to organise a proper vote and come to a consensus anyway. Imagine the uproar from the trance crackers if a "mnml" (i.e. anything but minimal) set won!

Isn't that from 2006?

My pick for this year would be this.

Sand Leaper - My Progressive Trance Retrospective(1997-2000)

Damn search engine isn't working for me and can't find the link to the thread.

Falony - Cuddlebubbles

I liked this on many levels, It just works, the sound appeals to what I've been into this year.

This. Also, was nefardec's "Dream Of The Earth" dub-hippy set from 2009? Because that was awesome too.

jupiterone/jetee - Stardust.

I'll also second that. I didn't say much in the thread because I know very little about ambient, but that mix was incredible.

Bobby West from Virginia... That shit was hardcore.

Posted by montana on Dec-18-2009 15:11:

I'll place my vote for the following:

stub - Contact
When he dropped Liquid Soul - Capoccino, I about lost it. The Zen Mechanics remix of Rumble In the Jungle was a real stomper too, so I put it in my mix too!

Magadansky - Ancient Artifacts
A wide range of styles, almost perfectly executed, great tracks here.

Jack Moss - Close Your Eyes
One of the best sets all-around that I have ever heard, fucking sick the whole way through.

I enjoyed these sets the most out of all the sets I've listened to on TA

jetee's 'stardust' was absolutely huge for me this year.

Oh yeah, this as well.

Adam Vana's sets were also all very solid.
