Boston...avalon??
i had to go all the way to nyc to go clubbing but since im in ri, boston is closer and itd be easier to commute and i heard there is Avalon.. can any ta's whove gone give me some info about how the club is...
Avalon is one of the better clubs in the Northeast region. Its not very big but not cramped either. Setup is nice, laser lights and all are nicely done. Crowd is usually very good there too. IMHO Avalon management is 20 times better than Exits management. Only problem is that it closes at 2 AM. But that's not avalon's fault since everything closes at 2 in Boston. You can check out the site for photos and videos from avalon and upcoming DJ lists.

yeah -- Avalon is pretty much the only club in the USA that has a big name trance/progressive DJ spinning every weekend. The 2AM thing sucks, but ya its worth goin to for the sound system/lights/lasers...

ok, I guess Ill have to chime in on this one. I worked at Avalon for 4 years while I was in school in Boston as DJ and in production with Fedor/Felix/Steve/John Lyons. As a manager Steve Adleman is terrible, but he doesnt need to be good because the Lyons Corp. has basically run everyone else out of Boston. They have NO competition like Exit does so they can afford to not care. Lyons Corp. owns ALL of Landsdowne St. and their partner is the head of concert licensing so Avalon gets all the big bands and tours as well. They are pretty much a 1 man show, so yes maybe it is a nicer club, but their management isnt any better. Secondly, about their nights. Avalon Thursdays were NEVER trance. From 1992 to 2000 Avalon Thursdays were international. That means money, european kids, and eurohouse/eurotrance music, I should know I spun some of those nights, and it was the longest running night in Boston history. The resident to this day is still one of my best friends and they treated him terribly so we both left and vowed never to return. NOw my friend has moved on to produce 15 tracks with Jan Johnston and 3 with Oakenfold so I guess he isnt doing to bad. Ever since those thursday parties died Avalon has been trying to rethink what to do so they bring in random djs on random nights thinking it will help the club numbers when in relaity they lose money every time they bring a big dj in on thursdays. Thats why they only do it for Oaky or PVD. Fridays nights are the official guest dj nights. Avaland has been going on for about 4-5 years now with the 50th show being Junior Vasquez back in 1999. Fridays are always jammed packed, but instead of asians like at exit, you have e'd out mass. high school kids dressed in played out pvc skirts and guys with spikey hair from 1998 and girbaud jeans. Its like walking into the mall when I was 15. The crowd is just as bad and just as gross, but its even more packed. The Sound System in Avalon is 100x better though and the talent is usually better too, but the 2 am thing sucks. NOw on to Saturdays. Saturday nights at Avalon are not trance, but a mixture of trance/house/hard house/new york house, but not the trance we like. Its mostly very commercial stuff with alot of draperish stuff thrown in. I wont really diss this night because my 2 friends are the residents and they are both good kids. They just have a certian crowd and they stick to them. Saturdays sometimes have guest djs when the numbers are slow, but all in all saturdays stick with the residents. Hope this helps with all the info. Avalon was my 2nd home when I lived in Boston, so I got to know everything about it and stuff I probably shouldnt have, but its history now so I figured I'd let you all know as a bit of insight next time you head there.

Big black is one of the scariest Mofo's i have ever met.He has this evil eye test that he uses during everyone of his searches. Usally if u look away or try and get freindly with him he gives you that line you were talking about. This happened one time to my freind tom. He had some stuff hidden and I guess this dude had a 6th sence about it.He goes like this to tom (WHAT DO YOU GOT BOY!!!!) In a pitbullish tone. Tom "nothing man" . Big black "WHAT DO U GOT !!!!!) at that time me and tom almost shit a brick
. Then tom did the right thing and talked to this guy on his own level (I DONT GOT A DAMM THING) tom said this with a kick in his voice.... then the guy laughed and let us in. If it was me I probably would have cracked.

My 2sense
Redeye pretty much covered all the bases. me, i drove from trenton NJ to avalon (about six hrs) for tiesto and i was impressed by the club. it wasn't the best by far but it is one of the better clubs on the east coast. BTW Tiesto is the SHIZZZZZZZZ, fukin amazing. The 2am thing is probadly the biggest negative. the sound and lights are decent as well as the crowd. My recommendation is to go and tell us what u think. paz
IMO Avalon is definitely the best club in the USA right now (which isnt really sayin too much). Buzz in DC would be the only real competition, but they pretty much only book prog house DJs now... no trance
The cool thing about Avaland (the fri night party @ Avalon) is that they have 2 big name DJs spinning every week, one in Avalon and one in Axis, so you're pretty much guaranteed to get some decent talent in there every weekend.
I would agree that right now Avalon is the 'nicest' club on the east coast, but the 2 am closing kills it. I must say that on the west coast Giant in LA would knock Avalon on its ass. It is an amazing club inside and out and Is open past 2 am. They too get the big names (they had Picotto a year before Avalon had a shot). They get all the talent Avalon does and in a more relaxed atmosphere, it gets my vote for best club.
I heard the sound system in Giant's new location bites. Is that true? Ya the 2am thing sucks for Avalon, but again, I was just takin into consideration the club itself, not the local laws that it must abide by.
