Is Ambien sex for real?

A friend IM'ed me after an overnight shift and said he had taken Ambien to sleep. He then brought up Ambien sex and then said some uncharacteristically filthy things to me.

Twelve hours later he IM'ed me to apologize and said he doesn't remember much of what he wrote. (I restrained myself from suggesting he read the chat transcript). I said fine and all was okay.

Is this Ambien thing a Tiger Woods inspired fad or is there something to it? From casual googling it might be something. But I can't imagine wanting to take a drug that causes amnesia. Too much alcohol does that & I don't think morning after shame is recreational fun.

Here's some stuff I found about Ambien's sexual side effect:

General story about Ambien and sex

People discussing their experiences with Ambien

Help! Ambien made me cheat.

What do you all think?

1st time i tried it nothing happened but the last few times, i've had some cool hallucinations.

i IMed my friends a couple times, not very coherently. i didn't remember some of it until my friend showed me the transcript of stuff i wrote including stuff like
"omrh shoadwes movenbem!"

i remember seeing the shadows on my walls moving all around and it reminded me of the michael cassette tune "shadows movement"

It's a sleeping medicine
I was wondering if anyone has had any weird experiences with it..
It causes me to hallucinate(everything looks liquified and black holes appear), feel jitterery, impairs my ability to walk and talk..
Dunno..seems weird.

I think this is not a situation I'd like to find myself in. I do want, however, to take it and see what it is like - sounds like fun (as long as you're locked in a padded room, that is ).

I've been taking ambien and it doesn't seem to do anything. But I'm not sure if there's a difference between generic which I'm taking and brand name ambien.

I find it hilarious people trying to abuse pills I use everyday. I get annoyed when Ambien or other sleeping pills makes me hallucinate. I don't know why anyone would use it for anything else. It's just a bitch.

Not that long ago my mom was on vacation with her sisters, one of which takes ambien to sleep. When it was time for the one who took ambien to go to bed, the others wanted to play cards, so she decided to stay up an hour or two later after she had taken her pills. Apparently she said a lot of weird shit (don't have details), and even managed to beat the others at whatever they were playing. The next morning she remembered nothing.

Hallucinating is all sorts of fun! Don't let your mind be weak and explore it.

That's like trying to understand why people took everything under the kitchen sink + pseudoephedrine to make crystal meth.

They did it because it gets them high.
