In case you haven't seen it yet...

Here is the official trailer for the new Karate Kid movie, starring Will Smith's son. It looks like it's going to be an ever bigger hatchet job than I anticipated. Why can't they just leave the classics alone?

*throws up*

The Karate Kid movies are '80s camp, not "classic."

This movie needs more Martin Kove

Yeah, I don't care what kind of shape he's in these days, this movie just needs more of him.

Yep.

That new trailer looks fucking awful. Hollywood movies are like trance; the directors took all the good elements, simplified them, exploited them and wrecked their field in the process. There's little creativity, subtlety or emotion left. '80s movies were bad, but they knew it and didn't take themselves seriously. New Hollywood flicks don't have that quality.

Why the fuck is this new movie set in China with a Chinese teacher anyway? Karate is Japanese and all the original movies were centred around this. Bonsai etc.

Also, if it doesn't have motherfucking Joe Esposito singing You're The Best at any point, then it's DEFINITELY not worth watching.

Par for the course, really.

".... nothin's gonna eva keep ya down!"

Love how the "wax on wax off" idea has morphed into "take off your jacket. put your jacket back on". fucking gay.

EDIT: yeah, and why the fuck is it in Honk Kong now? No more Japanese theme and style of karate?

It would be better if, in the end, Jackie Chan turns out to be a dick, and Will Smith fights him in an epic battle to save Bel-Air.

Posted by Renzo on Dec-26-2009 17:11:

Man, that trailer is so shit. It has black people speaking in proper English and complete sentences. Bunch of bullshit.

How does doing a shitty remake or sequel affect the original?

It only does if you let it.

Re: Re: In case you haven't seen it yet...

You are just now complaining about the downfall of the karate kid...I think you are 15 years too late.

It's like Karate Boondocks: It rapes both Japanese culture AND African American culture.

I love it with all my heart.
