Getting started at DJ'ing

Well guys, sometime in the future i'd like to try my hand at actually DJ'ing. However, i'm not sure what equipment you need or how I would get started. Can you get CD DJ decks now or is Vinyl still used? How do DJ's beat-synch using decks rather than Ableton? And how much does it cost to get started?

Would be great to get some answers. Thanks guys.
