THANK YOU SKILLS for a GREAT line-up!

when the presale tix are gonna be on sale?

Posted by DaveT on Dec-30-2009 08:19:

Tix go on sale on Monday, February 15th.

Stage setup and timeslots should be interesting considering good progression will be tough with that lineup.

Good lineup individually, just will be interesting to see how the progression goes.

It's a ONE ROOM party...

But I missed out on last year's center room production... I might have to stick through the electro for AVB at a festival... but seriously... Aoki?!

quote:

I think we need to be clear that this is a one room event now, over 10+ hours. The line-up is complete.

ARMIN VAN BUUREN
INFECTED MUSHROOM
BENNY BENASSI
FEDDE LE GRAND
BOYS NOIZE
GARETH EMERY
STEVE AOKI
LA RIOTS
DYLOOT

The only way we can do what we dream to do with regards to the production, and to take things to the next level, is to bring it all into one area.
It will be nothing short of spectacular, that we promise. 2headphones.gif

Some will be understandably disappointed w the direction we going with POP, but once you get inside we hope you will see our vision and understand why we've gone this way.

There is so much amazing technology out there that inspires us, and until now, it has not been possible to do such things with multi room events. We are just spread too thin for what we envision.

SKILLS 1heart.gif CHANGE.

Oh weird. I'll move it for you.

great line-up. pretty good venue. it's ok that it ends at 2am because it starts at 4pm and it leaves time for an afterparty. but 16+, that's where i draw the line. 18+ is bad enough but at least they can legally buy cigarettes, but 16+ is just way too young of a crowd. bummer.

Perfect lineup.. first time seeing armin FINALLY. Shuld be interesting with the one room concept.. and seems like they have some crazy theme this year... very anxious for this one!

Posted by DaveT on Dec-31-2009 01:46:

Steve Aoki w/ Infected Mushroom the perferect lineup?
Fedde le Grand w/ Armin van Buuren the perfect lineup?

Heck, most people into IM aren't really into AvB.

Basically, it's a lineup that will largely appeal to the 16+ crowd. But that's pretty much it.

After seeing it's one room, I have to say I'm disappointed. If it was spread through two rooms, I think it'd could have and would work better. But meshing all those styles into one room in one night...ouch. It will be tough on a lot ears at times becasue most people who like a couple of those DJs aren't gonne like the rest and vice versa. MOst people, especially the young crowd, isn't into such a widerange of EDM.

This is all musically speaking and looking at it as a fan.

I've flown down to San Fran the past two years for ETD Pop but this lineup doesn't appeal to me... sounds like it's EDC in LA this year

I think the only act that really sticks out here is Infected Mushroom. Big-room electro and big-room tech trance really aren't that different, so the transitions between Armin+Gareth and the house DJ's should be easy. Infected on the other hand will presumably be doing the same live psyrock show they always put on, and there's really no way to fit that in smoothly, unless they were to go on after armin to close out the show but I don't really see that happening.

I actually enjoy electro so I think this party could be a blast, but I'm really bored of infected mushroom and since its a one room party I'd have to sit through them no matter what.

Posted by DaveT on Dec-31-2009 08:28:

Who plays tech-trance? or they aren't defined by it. THey might play some tracks frmo that genre, but they are not tech-trance DJs.

People who like Armin do not like Aoki. People who like LA Riots prob will not like someone like Gareth. You don't see anyone on here talking abotu LA Riots do you? Or Boys Noize (although for electro I think they are great).

There will be some people who will like it all, but I don't see the vast, vast majority doing so.

You could stick IM, Armin, Gareth, And Dyloot on one stage (IM would ahve to come on last of course). Benny would prob have to go on there, because I doubt his agency would let him be on a side-stage hehe.

And the rest on another stage, and with the right timeslot setup I think you could make the crowds who like each side happy

BUt that's not gonna be the setup. They are shoving all those DJs on one stage, which means most will prob just have a simple hour timeslot. Maybe 1:10 minutes. I'd expect Armin to have a longer timeslot if anyone. But it's really hard to mix ALL those styles with all hour or so long sets and keep any flow going. Just as soon as one gets going, the next DJ is gonna come on and the style is gonna change quite noticeably. If it was gradual changes in style, it wouldn't be so bad...but that's a wide range.

Of course, all just IMO.

I agree with Dave, and Dave thank you for being constructive and not blasting anything.
I personally wish IM was in another room, it will hurt the flow, and they are playing here soon anyway... I wish Skills would have less genres mashed into one room. This will go back and forth and everyone will disagree with eachother. But last year the flow was not very smooth either. It's too bad money has such a huge part in party planning, but we can't change that.... Random but descent openers are one thing, but having two completely differant headliners is another story...

couldn't agree more mate...

Hope with one room the production for this show will be top notch.

Posted by SKILLS on Jan-09-2010 22:33:

Imagine us taking all of the production in the side rooms from last year and putting it ALL into one room.

well there you have it. this is a party geared towards teenagers who don't know any better and don't have a better alternative. at best it's a sampler platter of beginner edm, aptly named "pop". perfect line up? it's a collection of popular names thrown together to move tickets. producing a logical and complementary line up of artists was clearly one of the last intentions.

Posted by Tosh on Feb-12-2010 01:20:

Haha, rich, I actually agree with you this time! Haha
it's kind of a cool concept for beginner EDM kids cuz they get a taste of several genres
