Circus + Resolution 2010 review!!!
I had such a great time this weekend. Circus and Resolution were amazing. From the club, the DJs, the people, everything was great.
Odyssey 2010 was a great party. Circus is a great club and the staff is great. Wippenbery ang Gareth both played a wicked set, and often at times I found myself wandering back and forth between the house and the trance room. I prefer trance but the resident house DJs @ Circus blew me away as well as the international DJs . For the first time in a long time, I really enjoyed house music. I also met lots of great friendly people. Everything was great.
10/10
Resolution was even better. From the setup to the sound, everything was great. Paul van Dyk's set was insane. I don't know who the VJ was but he/she did a great job. It was an incredible night. If anyone has the tracklist for both nights, please let me know.
10/10
People in Montreal are a lot more friendly, very hospitable, and know how to organize great events (people in Toronto are dicks with the exception of a few; sorry
).
lol
I'll most likely be spending my new years in Montreal again.
Overall: 10/10
Me and my buddies did these events, first time in Montreal and we all agreed this was the best weekend of our lives. Music, crowd, environments and everything else was simply amazing. couldnt have asked for more.
Ima go out on a limb here and say that none of the sets from either night were recorded? Any chance A&B will have that as a TATW episode? I didnt take too many pictures cuz of the no cameras rule so the next best thing would be the sets...
more proof Montreal is better than TO
where are all the reviews? Is the thread around here somewhere?

Odyssey:
Great party, Gareth played similar to his last set at circus.
Resolution:
This party goes to my top events in Mtl...WOW! crazy visuals, perfect sound and sick line-up.
Mistress Barbara: loved her set, she was playing some banging techno. Nice!
Paul van Dyk: the highlight of the night! Massive set, he played alot of new stuff, some classics (gouryella
), and some random tracks (BEP lol), but it was Excellent! thanks to beb for booking him.
Above&Beyond: they were ok, they played their typical set: start with progressive chessy trance and then some banging tunes and their classics, nothing special.
tracklist?

I haven't been to Circus, but I was at Resolution and I have to admit that PVD's set at Metropolis in 2007 was a little better than his set at this year's Resolution. My friend kind of noticed he looked a little tired or jet lagged maybe? He just didn't look into it.
Absolutely not, PVD was top shape and was smiling the whole night (before and after his set), which is something I haven't seen before. He was chilling before his set and after in the backstage and eating hot dogs and chips lol.
Yesterday changed my perspective about this guy whom I consider a diva, but maybe not so after all.
His set was fantastic, nice rythm and flow throughout, the visual complimented that amazingly.
Light show was excellent.
pvd and uppercut tore it up
I dont agree, first time ive seen PVD live and it was way less then i expected. Good, but i thought he would be better.
Second sun- wtf is with the singing?
MIstress Barbara- no.
Above and beyond were amazing, yeah cheesy trance but like ccmmoonnnnnnn they did it up large.
Didnt see uppercut tho, not sure it thats a good thing or bad.
how was Misstress at Resolution?
Decided to do resolution this year. i didnt really set my expectations too high in terms of the music. i mean come on, look at the line up. but anyways.
got to the party while mistress was playing. from what i heard throughout the night i enjoyed her set the most. lots of tech elements/vibes to it. i decided to cherish the moment since the rest of the night will be all hands in the air trance. so i cherished it lol. pvd was total garbage. opened the party with a remix of that really annoying black eyed peas track thats talking about a good night. in my head i was like "yea sure bud". his set sounded like one big build up. too weak. above and beyond was a little better. ended the set nicely with their classics. sattelite, alone tonight, good for me etc. lol nice to hear those once in a blue moon. i left shortly after above and beyond finished.
big ups to the production and especially the video. probably the best video show i have ever seen at a massive. it can almost be compared to productions for those big festivals in europe. dance valley etc. definately a highlight.
last but not least... girls in abundance as usual. what the.
overall a good time.

Ha Resolution was great...def the best one yet...lineup to get inn was small and moved quickly...the set up was great...clearly BEB took a page out of Tiesto's book "on how to throw down proper visuals" :P
MB wasn't my thing but oh well..
PVD rocked...
Too bad A&B were on that late...I loved their set...but I only lasted for 2 hours of their set...I was beat by then...
Thanks MTL and BEB for delivering another solid party...looking forward to the upcoming BAL EN BLANC
ps. thanks Malek for ticket
Made the trek down from Toronto with some friends and met up with some Montreal folk. Well worth the traffic-filled drive back yesterday -- solid double-header.
Resolution:
PvD was, hands down, the highlight of the trip. Most of us are big PvD fans and have seen him before (last being at Amensia this August). He always has me going crazy. Like someone mentioned earlier, I thought he was more energetic than usual, jumping around the booth like that. Only embarrassment was when he lowered the volume for some vocals (Home) and the lacklustre crowd participation. Hopefully he didn't take it personally! For those of us who had seen him before, this was his best set yet. He showed us why he is STILL the grand master. Great blend of his hits and new sounds. Happy to hear Nothing But You, Time of Our Lives, Home, We are One. Slight disappointment in the For An Angel version he played. Guess it's true, though, good things come from humble beginnings: solid interview here.
He never ceases to amaze me. He had a great 2009, the highlight being the Music Discovery Projekt he put on in Frankfurt back in February ([[ LINK REMOVED ]]
). A true masterpeice and work of art. Wish he came around here more often.
After PvD's killer set, we were quite disappointed with A&B, especially the first hour. Had so much energy from PvD but the slow pace of that first hour completely destroyed it. Was almost like a ghost town. Set got better and they played quite a few of their top tunes, so people eventually got back into it.
We were right at the front for most of the night, where there was a suprisingly-good amount of room to move and dance. Funny thing was that we were near a big group of older skasian couples...drove all the way from Toronto to feel right at home with them, haha.
I went to the first Resolution back in 06/07 (when Tiesto was really late) and have to give the organizers credit. The painfully-long lines were no more and the staff was quite friendly.
Circus:
Had a blast at Circus on NYE as well -- so many girls! Our group split up between the trance and house rooms and everyone had a great time. Was very cool to be in the VIP behing Wippenberg and Gareth - one of my friends got a cool up-close video during Chakalaka! Thanks to all who made this happen.
Overall, the scene in Montreal was extremely friendly. Many thanks for all the trance!
I don't know if we can put a review of Circus on January 1st (not NYE, the day after),
but I can tell you that was one hell of a memorable night,
Vibe was off the hook, Hakim played a bad ass opening set,
and it was just magic and epic.
We were maybe expecting a tired crowd, man was I wrong!
People hands in the air at 9 am, dancing their asses off.
Thank you for being there
;-)

Circus: I got there an hour before Wippenberg ended his set, it was ok, one good track, one not very good, it was more like a roller coaster.
Gareth came in,and he did a great job (as always) even though I think he played a bit too fast for what I was used to from him.
I left at 9, so I don't know how Arnej finished his set, what I got from him was good.
The vibe was really good, I love how the dance floor emptied at 5ish, before that there was no room to move
Resolution:Amazing!!
I got Second Sun's set, but what the hell where they thinking, I mean, playing at 138 bpm at midnight? that was so fast! I think they would have done a better job as closing (maybe that's why they were initially scheduled after Uppercut)
Mistress: I did't know what to expect from her, but it was really good, a lot of tech and house, got me into the mood for main part
PVD: I was expecting a lot from him, I knew he could play the best set ever, or the worst, so you never know if you're gonna get lucky, but OMG
he killed it, amazing track selection, and the vibe out of this world, for a moment I felt as if I was in a massive event in Europe, plus, he usually is very serious, but there he was smiling all the time, he closed his eyes and shit. The lights were amazing, I didn't even miss the lasers
A&B:The first hour was ok, I was surprised by the fact they played Sander van Doorn followed by Randy Katana, I liked that.
I think they played better than at the Bal en Blanc, maybe because they played more classics (specially Sirens of the Sea)
This party is definitely one of the top 3 I have been to in Montreal.

LIFT's RESOLUTION REVIEW
------------------------
Keep in mind I'm not a "trance" guy, but I do appreciate some of it.
ENTRY:
I got in late ( like 3am ) to avoid the rush and because ( as usual ) the girls take longer to get ready LOL...
It worked out perfectly for me ... no line ups... breezed through the airport-like security they had checking people ( although my girlfriend was given a much harder search for some reason
)
As I walked into the bell centre I saw a sea of people.... it was truely a breathtaking sight...packed like I never saw before.
LIGHTS / VISUALS: Stunning!!! Nothing short of spectacular... I have to admit it's rare I hear so much talk about the light show from people attending a major event or reviewing a major event but that just goes to show how impressive it really was.
I have no idea what they did differently from previous years but I was blown away at how good it was.... one of the best light shows for a EDM event I have ever witnessed.
CROWD:
Excellent! My kind of people , excellent ratio of girls to guys... lost of great outfits... excellent attitude overall. Didn't feel any tension or aggression in the air at all...felt really good when leaving the event!
MUSIC:
PVD - Good! Not a huge fan of his track selection however it worked for that night and that crowd.
Considering I don't normally listen or appreciate alot of trance I have to say A&B was amazing... probably the best live trance set I have ever heard IMO...
Some complain that they slowed the tempo down... however for me that was perfect. Maybe the sunglass wearing...glowstick waving...body surfing candy ravers didn't like the BPM dropping below 132 however for those of us who produce, DJ or dance to prog house ( Like Cesar Romaro at 127 BPM ) and techno ( Creator's kind of techno that's running at 127 BPM... it was very easy for me to listen too.
Not all of us are spring chickens hop'ed up on stimulants so I can't jump around at the faster tempo's
UPPERCUT - A friend of mine , awsome as usual! Much more my style of EDM... similar to what I will play when I perform live. So given my bias I couldn't get enough!
OVERALL: 9/10
Resolution 2010
Arrived at 9:30pm, lines weren't too bad. Had fun on the big empty floor for DJ Kal. He did a good job of setting the vibe for a big party without going too far.
Second Sun ...
total shit. Really unfortunate booking.
Mistress Barbara really impressed me, brought it back to simple percussive tech, great opening set, had me grooving.
PvD played some great stuff, some cheese, pretty much to be expected. I felt like he didn't have a great overall flow but there were some really perfect sections. Impressive live edits. Kinda hit-or-miss set, but I understand as he really had to please everyone there & the crowd was very diverse.
Above & Beyond dominated the night. I was a little bored by the end of PvD's set and was thinking about leaving early, but A&B saved it by turning the system down just a tad to clarify the sound & bringing in some lower tempo grooves. They started to lose me nearer to the end of their set and we wanted to catch free breakfast at the hotel so we left around 8:15am - the party was still mental, I'm sure Uppercut had lots of fun with it.
Lights were incredible, crowd had a great vibe. Thanks Montreal!
