You can create a tb 303 bassline with each (v)analogue synth on the market (virus, waldorf Q, k-station, a-station, andromeda, really anything with analogue synthesis, even toys like fruityloops) There is no need to buy a tb 303, unless you 're a purist, but it'll cost you a lot more and you are restricted to basssounds with the tb303. Choose a saw or square wave (depends on what sound you want) and put distortion on it and a filter lfo with little depth. Don't forget to put high resonance on the filter, I usually set the resonance just before it self-oscilates for tb 303 alike bassounds. Btw this should be in the producing forum.

ok thanks ...but i am not looking to LEARN how to use a TB303...i am looking to finally know what it sounds like in a track,,,like the ones i mentioned about...i am jus curious at what time during the track would i hear a TB303 sound?

I C , well that sound is not the typical tb 303 sound.. I believe those sound are mostly created with the clavia nord, tb 303 is mostly used for distorted basslines.

Gouryella - Tenshi has a TB303(or like sound) in it. Listen to the build up at start of the song. It may be hard to find, but it's there.

Junk project - Brain Tool throughout the whole song pretty much starting at about 56 seconds and going to the end.

Download Rebirth

It has 2 303 Emulators along with the tr-808(percussion) and tr-909(drums) machine emulators.

An actual answer to you question is hard because a 303 can be used to create bass lines, acid stabs, backing tune or even uplifting sequences.

Check: Trance Allstars - Lost In Love (Taucher Remix) a 303 was used to create the main tune (uplifing)

Check: DJ Shredda - Chainsaw (The Crow Remix) 303 was used to make the main tune (very hard and acidy)

For a mad massive live version, download PvD live @ rosenmontag 2002
.....that beginning is unreal.

so the bassline is the main part of the song here right? I'm still not sure which is the t3b03. The one that is pitched up at the breakdown?

cheers

The TB303 is that acid sound I'm sure you've heard. Check out Iskhur's guide to see a classic example.

http://www.ishkur.com/features/music/guide.htm

At the beginning he has an example of the sound under "Acid". Then in the techno genre check out the sample of Woody McBride - Basketball Heroes under the subgenre "Acid Techno". The bassline is pure 303.

You can create 303ish basslines with most analogue synths, but nothing quite resonates like the 303's filters do. That is why they're still in such high demand today, because although their sound can be emulated, it will never be 100% There is also a point to make about the waveforms that the 303 creates. Although it is supposed to be 'square', if you looked at the actual waveforms under an osciliscope you can see it isnt your typical square, adding to its uniqueness and that acid sound. There is also the matter of Analogue Vs. Digital. Because a computers sound output is digital converted to analogue it also will not be able to emulate it 100% since the 303s output is analogue.

Oh yeah, as the resonance knob is turned higher parts of the Saw waveform is leaked into the filter, adding to the richness of the sounds.

Posted by Noisician on Jul-10-2002 21:33:
