clubs billing DJ duo's then only 1 of them shows.... false advertising?
just out of curiosity...
how do you guys feel about duos(S8&tab, Aly &fila, sasha and digweed, gabriel & dresden etc) who get labeled to be at a show and only one of them is there?
wouldnt it be better to mention ahead of time and bill a gig as "tab from super 8 and tab" or "fila from Aly&fila" ?
avalon/giant is having sasha and digweed in march, but made it clear it will be individually on back to back weeks and not a show where they are playing together.

i honestly don't see it as a problem as long as the solo dj plays up to par.
but yea, when they say aly and fila, above & beyond, super 8 & tab, you expect everybody to be there.
I agree, but it's like Rank1, only one travels but the other never does, still the same sound as if both were there. Kinda a tough call but I see what you mean!!!!
I heard about only half of S8&T on NYE. But how about Above & Beyond, you almost never see all of them at once!

i don't see how any of this matters. i focus on how well the dj and the promoter do at bringing good music to a good crowd, and if they both deliver the goods i couldn't care less about who wasn't there. quite honestly, it doesn't take 3 of them to deliver above & beyond's sound. 1 of them could do that very easily. it's nothing more than a costly gimmick to have the 3rd member tagging along. what's more discouraging to me is how fixated people can get on the person/people over the music and the party.
i agree and disagree with r!ch.
sure, we should focus on the quality of music, vibe, crowd, set-up, and production.
But... for me it's a thing of principle... if you say S & D... bring S & D ... or don't be a promoter...
last time i checked... when i sit at a restaurant and order Steak & Eggs... i want Steak AND MY MO'FO' eggs... not just one of them...
again... it's principle...
There is also something to be said about how a DJ duo, trio, etc. interact and play off each other during a set. When I saw Super8 & Tab (Janne and Miika) last time at Circus, they were the headliners and omg did the place go off! You could see them going through the tracks together, each one coaxing the other into more magical musical frontiers.
I know there are circumstances that prevent everyone from being together, so if the alternative is not to have them at all, then 1/3, 1/2 or whatever is still the way to go!
Oh, about the truth in advertising thing, I think that DJ of (Group) is the way to go, unless it's some last-minute thing that can't be helped. I had heard that all 3 members of Above & Beyond were going to be there for NYE, and was a little let down when I found out at the party that Tony didn't make it, but I got over it quickly!
who said s&d and only brought 1 of them? i don't think that's ever happened. if it did, i'll bet that promoter is no longer working with either of them.

I was actually pretty damn disappointed because I wanted Miika (Super8) to sign my "Alba / (Dawn)" vinyl.
It's one of my top favorite songs of all time and I'm a fanboi who likes collecting autographs.
Everytime I've seen a dj of a duo play alone the vibe hasn't been the same as when they play together. That doesn't always mean it's been worse, just different. It would be nice to know in advance who's gonna be playing but it doesn't affect my party plans in any way. Besides, I've seen this "false advertising" so much in LA that I'm used to it already but I know 99% of the time the reason for a dj no-show is legitimate (illness, visa issues etc.). I never expect both/all djs to show up but if they do it'll just be a pleasant "suprise."
