lots of places that serve a healthy menu.

oh it's also SF dine about town week and many of the participating restaurants also take part in restaurant.com gift certificates.

SF Dine About Town
Presented by The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau
Two-Course Lunches: $17.95 | Three-Course Dinners: $34.95
January 15-31, 2010

Enjoy special two-course lunches and three-course dinners at participating restaurants. See list below for restaurants and their meal offerings. Prices are per person and do not include beverage, tax or gratuity.

Dine out three or more times at any participating restaurants during San Francisco Dine About Town, January 15 - 31, 2010, and pay with any American Express Card, and receive a $15 statement credit. Enroll now.

also if you make reservations with opentable.com you get points, accumulate 2000 points and you get $20 check for your next opentable dine.

colibri on geary is one of my fave's and they offer 1000 points for weekend brunch.

so if u pay with american express credit card, reserve using open table and redeem a restaurant.com gift certificate...

you can have 2 brunches at colibri tomorrow(17.95 *2)= $35.90, use your restaurant.com gift certificate -$25 and meal for two turns into $10.90(plus tax and tip) and you earn 1000 open table points.

go back on sunday and do the same and u gain another 1000 open table points.

redeem your points for a $20 check

go back next saturday and do the same thing and you basically have that meal FREE(your $20 check) and you still earn 1000 points(halfway to your next $20 check) and you get $15 from american express for 3 dines during SF dine around town....

seriously folks, if you complain about being broke and like going out, you just arent taking advantage of all the benefits/resources that are out there...

oh and colibri also used to be a member of dining mileage plan, so i used to get airline miles too

go to the webpage and look up restaurants in your city that appeal to you. add the certificates you want, and at the end in the promo code type indulge.

OR(what i like to do)

Purchase them as "gift certificates" thus not assigning a specific restaurant to the certificate. you can then redeem these later for the restaurant of your choice.

so ya buying 20 is a good idea, then you can send them out as gifts on birthdays, holidays etc.

usually the restaurant adds an 18% gratuity on the pre-discounted price, before the $20 deduction(or $10 or $50 as the certificates do come in different denominations)

even though SF for me requires a flight and hotel, i usually end up saving money on a weekend out there as opposed to a weekend in town lol.

oooh so if i purchase them, do i have to book online?

they have a phone number, you can call and order that way too....just say you want to buy them as gifts...
you will get a code for each certificate and when you want to redeem just follow instructions in the email. its really easy.

i gave out like 500 $10 certificates last month via their feed it forward program.

Arlington Heights, Ill. (PRWEB) November 26, 2009 -- Household cutbacks, job losses and foreclosures still loom large, affecting people's lives and abilities to give during the holidays. A down economy also has the potential to deprive people of the gift of giving, a harsh reality during the time of year when giving matters most. Restaurant.com announced today the return of "Feed It Forward," a 30-day initiative to support the important act of giving, despite these persistent economic hardships. Now until Christmas, individuals are entitled to give up to $9,000 in Restaurant.com gift certificates, from a total pool of $30 million, to family, friends and co-workers located anywhere in the country--at no cost.

Now until Christmas, individuals are entitled to give up to $9,000 in Restaurant.com gift certificates, from a total pool of $30 million, to family, friends and co-workers located anywhere in the country -- at no cost -- through the "Feed It Forward" site.
"People are challenged right now to get what they need for themselves let alone for others. We are enabling a nationwide giving movement and 'feeding frenzy' that allows everyone, no matter what their financial situation, to experience the gift of giving," said Cary Chessick, president and CEO at Restaurant.com.

The Feed It Forward initiative is built upon a single giving Web site, www.Restaurant.com/FeedItForward, stocked with a total of three million, $10 Restaurant.com gift certificates totaling $30 million. The site will be live through midnight PST on Dec. 25 and allows individuals to go online to give gift certificates on a first come, first serve basis. Gift givers choose whom to give to and gift recipients then decide where to dine among more than 6,500 participating Restaurant.com restaurants nationwide.

Thanks for the tip! I bought 16 GC's for $32, which is good for $400 worth of dining. Since they never expire, seemed worth it.

The general GC's must be redeemed for restaurant-specific GC's, which is no problem, but a few restaurants near me were out of certificates and it said to check back 1st of the month. My friend is convinced this is a scam and that the restaurant will just say they don't take the certificates, but I've read some good reviews about the program.

The closest restaurant to me is probably Cafe Med on Sunset Blvd, and I did read that someone tried to use a restaurant.com certificate along with a gift card, and they told the guy "one or the other," which seems reasonable...at least they honored one.

If I use just 2 of the 16 GC's, then I'm already in the black on this deal, especially if it's some of the places I normally go to already and pay full price!

Posted by HotDogWater on Jan-18-2010 18:14:

Great deal man, thanks.
I just got 4 GC's.

Can't wait to try this out!

kellys mission rock(which hosts all day parties every 2nd sunday in summertime), went here for lunch with Lyndsaywhatt!! when we arrived for LE weekend this past october.

Colibri
Zazil
annabelles bar and bistro
cafe la taza

for san diego, joltin joes is a neat restaurant/sportsbar and we go during happy our and the certificate is valid then too! so we get like 5-6 appetizers at half prize and then the GF on top of it

Posted by bigperf on Feb-09-2010 18:11:

If you bought general certs (not for a specific restaurant), they should all show under your purchase history. Those never expire. When you want to use (or have available for future use) one at a particular restaurant, you buy the specific restaurant cert. with a general cert. Was a bit confusing at first, but quite easy 2nd time through. The restaurant specific certs. expire after one year, but CA law may no allow them to expire, not sure on that.

Posted by HotDogWater on Feb-09-2010 23:21:

careful if you get reservations in advance and you're looking to spend your gift certs --

i've seen one or two places that say it's not valid if you reserve via opentable.com

Posted by JC22 on Feb-09-2010 23:29:

the certificates work, but they are a little misleading. I know from experience. Alcohol is excluded, tip is not included, and many restaurants have minimum purchase amounts. The minimums sometimes make it tough for just two people to get the most out of the certificate. If you're thinking you won't pay anything at all, you're wrong. Got to read all of the fine print.

have never had a problem getting my open table points....you check in, get credit for making the reservation, get seated, order and then at the end give them the certificate. $35 dine turns into $10, then 18% gratuity on the $35 you spent on the two entrees. about $17 when all is said and done,(plus $2 for the certificate so $19) which beats $35 + 15% gratuity for a little over $40.
