hey guys just want your guys thoughts on longer main riffs these days like 32 bars and 64 bars .... or do you prefer shorter riffs like 16 and then just 32.
I know epeic trance is dead these days but history does repeat itself.

Sure, why not
i find most tracks play the chorus in the breakdown and built it up then just go back to the rhythm section. I understand that this was a reaction against too much melody in songs but it was getting really old about 2 years ago and It is really unsatisfying. Most main drops seem to lack anything extra that makes it stand out from a really long standard outro. Sort of like techno.
aye i like a good riff it just takes some time to create a good one
mines usualy only a 1 bar loop or 2.
mines usualy only a 1 bar loop or 2. 32 bar of melody would just sound chaotic, like looping a guitar solo over and over.

the longer the better.. muscle mary's only like to flex when the bass is playing so if a long breakdown makes them run out to do a line of coke, less sweaty meat heads for the rest of us to deal with

Longest ive done is a 16 and I think thats enough. Not thats theres anything wrong with any longer as long as its good.
The Death of full on mega melodic stuff was the downfall tbh.
Days when sidechain wasnt the rage in tarting up shite tunes and producers didnt spend 3/4 of the time on a 6 layer bassline.
Composition was the order of the day and tunes made you stand and think.
Not disputing there are not tracks like that being made today , but not like the good old days.

GO with whatever feels right for you mate
I had a track released called "Life is Sweet" a couple of months back. The riff goes round twice, the first time it's 12 bars long, and the second phrase is 14 bars long. It's a little weird but i thought it worked well. Others may not! But don't be too put off by what other people are doing. Make sure you're making music you like!
breakdowns are only meant for chillout... dance music shouldn't have enormous breakdowns imo, gets boring if it's any more than 33 bars. even then it's too much i reckon, but i'll allow 33...
here is a hard trance track I did when long builds and 16 bar melodies where the rage in 2002. It even has the scot project snare rolls and shit! The kinda shit jucie heads like Robby Rox would throw down to.
My eyeballs are almost rolling
monster build
