The cult of the classic: Why DJ's are playing classic tracks more than ever.

Interesting talk with some known and unknown DJ's about playing classics in their DJ sets. A fair amount of opinion as to why classics are still played as it is related to the realities of modern production. Since there is a fair amount of "good 'ol days" syndrome here and on other forums, it is worth a read.

they're coming to their senses that groove and rhythm is the essence to a good dance tune

New music isn't all bad and old music isn't all good.

It sounds like they are trying to adapt to the marketplace where you can't stand out if everyone is playing the same top 10 tunes from Beatport.

The older records were mixed down on analog consoles and they were not mashed to fuck. It's no secret things have gotten louder and louder, and they sound much worse for it.
