Review: Steve Angello at Guv
NON STOP PARTY DJ!!!
I had seen Angello once before at Decadence 2008, and was not overly impressed. But last night was AMAZING <3
The energy and pure party vibe was something I haven't experienced in Guv for awhile. Every track was like "OMG YESSSSSS!!!!" He was VERY interactive with the crowd - probably too much for my typical likings - but nevertheless it still contributed to sheer madness.
Everyone around me had non stop smiles. It was great.
Avicii was the perfect opener. Did a great job getting everyone dancing hard.
My gallery experience last night was HORRIBLE - so horrible that hearing the name gallery makes me feel sick to my stomach. Within my first 30 seconds of being there I was plowed over by two huge juice heads who were hugging and running all over in a circle. The crowd was RETARDED. There was lots of room yet everyone still had the need to bump into you as hard as possible. Some stupid girl would not stop high pitch ear bursting tone deaf whistling. I was stalked and then sandwiched by two juiceheads - thought I was on jersey shore. The gallery is now way too bright - I do not like the reno at all. Music was mediocre at best, which then out of no where turned into the worst electro noises I have ever heard.... I RAN out!
Ovi M played some really great tracks. Vibe in Acid lounge was great. Each time I see him he always impresses me... Luis Conte was probably the highlight of the night for me.
Oh and did Guv go on a mass hiring for new photographers? With the exception of some of the big nights I have never seen so many club photographers at Guv.
good to meet you last night Intangible =) (good to meet you officially too Shaya)
i think the "too many photographers" thing was brought up by some of the promo companies involved already, as i wasn't allowed to take photos from the stage last night, and this time i didn't feel like trooping through the main room crowd to get club management to back me up.. kinda got the sense there was some haterade bein sipped, which i didn't really get coz i'm about as polite/friendly/unobtrusive as you'll ever find in this industry, but it's all good - jus forced me to be more creative in terms of finding new places to shoot from & i still came out with hands down the best event gallery i've ever put together on a night of work..
anyways, i was mostly in the main room all nights so i'll only comment on AVICII & Steve Angello.. both did an amazing job, i was loving the music the entire night but Angello definitely brought enough energy to take the crowd to another level when he came on with a bang.. and he was able to sustain that all the way through til 3ish when i had to leave to take care of my friend who was hammered at another club.. crowd as a whole was loving every minute of it, jus as i was.. and everyone who greeted me as they walked by seemed to be enjoyin themselves, so def a good night all around - photos up soon!
Not too many acts who can pull off One More Time and Lady one song apart from each other but Mr. Angello did it with gusto!!!
I had a great time last night. Steve was pretty pounding at times
and the tunage was proper main room stuff as far as house goes...
One thing negative was the fact that he is so hearing impared, that he BLASTED the monitors to the point of serious ear pain for me...
Hazards of the job I guess...
Great party though...

PS Rene GREAT Seeing you!!! ITs been WAAAAYYYY too long
that show me love remix was RETARDED!!!!! the White stripes "Seven Nation Army" sample was friggen sick and the buildup was quite possibly the longest most drawn out, effects ridden build up I've ever heard in my life. Tune of the night
Overall last night did not top the night last year when him and Ingrosso went back to back till close. A little too much commercial cheese (and this is coming from a fan of well used commercial cheese) for my liking. Good mixing but the set just seemed to lack a sense of flow. I almost got the feeling that Steve didn't come into this gig with high expectations (maybe he was tired or whatever) but I think that amazing crowd response to everything he did sorta got him into a good groove. So long story short....not the best i've heard from him...but still damned fucking good!

Empire of the sun - Walking on a dream
Ahhhhh tune of the night for me...
And this:
What a monster!
Good times
holy crap. got there around 11:30pm (later than usual) and guv was already jammed. a little pissed that i missed joe and fab's opening set cuz i was running around a lot trying to get settled in then suddenly i noticed avicii was on. HOLY CRAP this guy is on fire! and hes only 20 years old. probably the youngest headliner we've ever had at guv. steve angello did not disappoint. always loved when he plays. got home around 5:30 and slept until 2pm. lol. what a fantastic night. cant wait for contact.
You know, for the bit of Avicii that I saw, I have to say choosing between the possibility of Nic at Stereo or (the guarantee of) Avicii at Circus, is a really difficult decision!
I was really impressed by him!
SAngelloLIVE
Thank you Toronto and Guverment !! One of the best shows in a LONG time !!! LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!!!! I heart u all !

It was a crazy night. It was exactly what I expected. The music was nuts and mixed in quite well. He's very dynamic, doens't just sit back and wait for tracks to end. I like how he gets into it all.
Note: Bitch bartenders who steal $2 from customers change as 'tips' must go. I accidently gave the wrong amount of money for a drink, corrected it out, she yells "why are you doing this to me?", gives me back $7 and quickly takes $2 before going off to the next person. I understand it's a crazy night but this isn't the first instance of Guv bartenders stealing tips.
What a massive night! I haven't danced like that in a loooooooooong time. His set was so pumping with energy that i jumped up on the speaker when he dropped "BE" and didn't get off for a half hour! This is coming from the girl who's retired from "dancing on speakers" years ago... lol!
His crowd interaction is ALWAYS amazing, and of course his choice of tunes always impressive.
I expected alot from his set, and i walked out with a BIG smile and couldn't stop saying 'WOW" all the way to the car...
Fuck, I didn't make it and I knew it was going to be amazing. I had a killer migraine, couldn't even keep my eyes open without it feeling like a hammer was slamming my head. Glad everyone had a great night!!

Upon further reflection, this was actually a crazy ass jam. I got there at like 1 AM and it rammed. I was just so surprised at how well Avicii was playing and then when Steve Angello came on it was game over.
I loved how dynamic he was. Just switching it up, interacting with the crowd...I couldnt leave until he was done at least. I wish I was in better spirits last night (going to these things alone gets lonely at times!) and that bartender issue left me real irritated but the crowd was eating it up and it was real jammed for a long ass while.
Nice to hear Mark Oliver followup on his set with Nic Fanciulli- Feed The Freezer. It's a 'big' track but sounded so awesome on that system.
OH yeah. Kudos for the Guv for not putting up the sound levels too insanely high and for doing a sick job with syncing the lights finally with the music.
Mark Oliver anyone?

Angello was great... alot of great tunes. Now i know he made or remixed the cheese that he played at one point, but it honestly felt like a z103 jam in there for a good half hour!! Sad to see a lot of great artists go the guetta route!
Oliver's close was great. a lot of groovy funky filtered fun house! Lots of disco shit which was def 100% colombian LOL (apologies to those who have heard that joke 100 times already
)
All in all a good night. Great music makes my job more enjoyable thats for sure!
